When will the disappointment stop?

So yesterday my EPG vanished and I couldn’t even use Live TV. Tried manually refreshing and nothing would happen. Checked status.plex.tv and saw Gracenote reported an outage. Pretty bad design flaw to not even be able to use Live TV/DVR because Gracenote was down. obviously now a mute point as you are supposedly switching EPG sources.

So today, I update to 1.16.1 which allowed the EPG to download again, however I’m missing a channel. Also all of the episode descriptions are generic to the particular show and not each episode.

Plex has been an embarrassment on so many levels ever since they tried releasing Live TV/DVR features. Been out for over two years and still doesn’t do basic features?

  • EPG constantly broken
  • time shifting has barely/ever worked,
  • lack of live tv support on chromecast
  • Complained over a year ago about time shifting bug on android client with streaming brain enabled and that still hasn’t been fixed.
  • Parity with new UNO interface? Well even with the new “Uno” interface it still is different between roku, PMP, etc… Most obvious is missing grid guide.
  • missing obvious DVR features as manually recording, watching channel with missing EPG, and the list goes on…

I used to recommend Plex to friends and family, and unfortunately I can’t even do that anymore. Very disappointing. All we get is, submit logs, we are looking into it, no idea when anything will be fixed, we don’t give timelines, blah blah.

One thing Plex is good at doing is always pushing out the advertisement e-mails saying how great their DVR and Tidal intergration is trying to get a bigger customer base. This should have never been taken out of Beta.

Below is a screenshot from the generic episode description I was talking about.
