Server Version#: 1.29.1
Player Version#: 1.54.2.3267
FYI: The issue(s) described below existed before the current listed versions. I’ve been upgrading server/clients hoping for resolution.
Where did all my local media go? I’ve been running Plex on my QNAP for years and never experienced this issue. Whatever method I use to access Plex there is no indication of my locally hosted media/videos. I basically can only see Plex Channel content. All I see on left tab is “Your Media” which selecting only displays a page with button “Get Plex Media Server”. Selecting “Live TV” doesn’t show contents from my OTA HDHomeRun 4 Channel tuner card.
Did you by chance reset your account password and opt to sign-out all devices when doing so? It sounds like you’re using different Plex apps that can no longer see your server because it’s no longer linked to your account. After signing out all devices you need to reclaim your server. To do that, you’ll have to access it “locally” → using the QNAP’s local IP address from within the same subnet (e.g. http://[QNAP IP address]:32400/web)
@tom80H, Thanks for the fastest response I’ve ever witnessed online.
yes I reset account after the hack notice we got few weeks ago. I just tried as you suggested by logging into local IP URL. Once in I still get the same page displayed.
Can you confirm you’re on the same network/subnet as the NAS and using the actual IP (no “quick connect” URL offered by the QNAP)?
What’s the value of the attribute claimed="..." when you open http://[QNAP IP address]:32400/identity? (should be 0 or 1 for unclaimed or claimed respectively).
There’s an extensive guide on how to reclaim PMS on a QNAP NAS (detailing some of the platform specific steps)
Plex will only let you access an unclaimed server from within the same network. It’s quite strict about that being the same subnet.
If you cannot connect to the NAS from a device that’s actually in the same subnet, you can e.g. use a SSH tunnel as a fallback (see description in the password reset support article).
Thanks for that explanation; guessing it’s a security measure. I was able to access the needed interface connecting from my desktop (it is on same subnet) and reclaim server.
I believe Plex should put something within the interface notifying users of this issue. Even something as a flashing “Unclaimed” notice with links to requirements to reclaim.
Either case, thanks very much for your insight!
BTW: Do you have anything as to why the Windows client is now requiring install for every launch. I am running Windows 11 (laptop) and do not logon with admin rights for security. My desktop (Windows 10) doesn’t appear to have this issue.
