Where does Plexamp getting information about genre Radio or radio timetravel?

Server Version#: Version 4.22.3
Player Version#:

Hello plexers,
I’m a little bit confused how plexamp generates its playlists, overall its quiet good sortet but their many mistakes though like Metal is played in Dance playlist and so on…

In my library i sortet my music in own music genres not the genre which automatically generated if you add new Music. But in Plexamp the music is still nevertheless good sortet, so maybe plexamp get the information not only based on your own made genres.

But i dont know how to improve the results of Plexamp, it was quiet hard work die seperate my music in own genres, because its about 2800 artists large and before sorting the music it was like 100 different genres, which was way to much.

How can i get the maximum out of Plexamp? it would be awesome to get more precise plexamp build playlists based on what Radio i choose

greets michael

From my understanding it’s getting it from the metadata…

check the metadata for those that are showing up wrong.

I Havn’t filled this case at all for 90% of my music, the plex Server gets all the information from last.fm or simiular, but i changed the information in plex manually into my own genres.

But Plexamp shows off most of the music correctly, so maybe plexamp creates playlists based on the artist name, but thats why im confused, i don’t if its better if i Let the genres in automatic a live with 100 different music genres.

I found something out, i clicked the Genre Radio and have choosen blues-radio and i have definately no blues music but plexamp played Katy Perry lol. I looked after the file and Pop was filled in the case you showed, so i’ve taken a look in plex Katy Perry was also filled in as Pop and i found out each album from the specific artist has its own genre again. There was filled in Pop, Blues and charts. I Dont know why blues was filled while its actually Katy Perry. So if im right i’m occupied to fill in the correct information for the next months

Plex is using MusicBrainz for metadata and then it connects with All Music for genre information. That is if you don’t prefer local metadata (embedded tags).

Make sure you have a new Plex music library, and upgrader your old one if not.

@alexanderjunk I just thought the same.. i’m looking at The Ataris.. in last.fm they have the following:

looking at musicbrainz i see (which is what it is in my metadata because i use Picard):

Then in Plexamp i’m seeing:

so it looks like its using a combonation of metadata and last.fm… but that’s all dependent on how you set your agents.

@qnap92 if you already haven’t used picard.. check out the tutorial i wrote up to help you: [HowTo] Music Organizing with MusicBrainz Picard - #5

You are so right… i missed it in the post… d’oh!

Music in Plex starts with the best-in-class database of music content from MusicBrainz and then also adds in the best-in-class musical metadata from AllMusic. Just a few highlights of improvements:

  • High quality artist bios, album reviews, and critic ratings
  • Improved album release dates (original releases vs re-releases)
  • Awesome artist and album art coverage
  • Clean genres, rich styles, moods for artists and albums

oh crap i missed that feature ;o
