Where is metadata stored? (Mac server)

I recently started using Emby, alongside my Plex setup, just to compare. One of the first things I noticed is that when Emby scanned my library, it placed metadata alongside the video files in the same folders as each movie. Namely, it added a .nfo file, as well as fanart.jpg and poster.jpg.

I realized that I have no idea where the equivalent Plex metadata is stored. And actually, it would be great if both Emby and Plex could share this metadata, if possible (I’m not sure if it is a proprietary format, or if they use the same .nfo format).

So I guess my questions are,

  1. Where is the default location for Plex metadata?
  2. Is it possible to store the metadata alongside the video files? And
  3. Can Plex and Emby share metadata files?

should be:
~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/

it’s not actually files but stored in a database.
you can configure Plex to consider .nfo files which can also be made available to to other platforms (not sure about Emby – I believe .nfo files originate with Kodi?!
however… in that case, Plex will still upload the metadata in its library – the .nfo file is just another source for metadata.
