Where is the enhanced android tv player?

Plex released an enhanced video player for Apple TV and now Apple has better playback support than Android TV. A lot of content these days have eac3 audio and the android can’t play it without transcoding. Are there any plans for an enhanced player for android tv?

My Amazon Fire TV Cube and Nvidia Shield happily passthrough EAC3 audio, without transcoding, to the attached TV/receiver.

We can only passthrough EAC3, it can’t be decoded locally on the device. If you don’t have a system that can support EAC3, it will transcode.

I was not referring to passthrough.

Couldn’t you do the same thing you did for Apple and include another player? If I use Kodi it plays eac3 without any issues.

Can you provide additional information about your setup?

On what hardware are you running the Plex Android TV client?

To what is it connected - TV/Receiver/etc - & how - HDMI/optical audio/etc?

How do you have the audio configured in the Plex client?

Example (my setup):
AFTV Cube <–HDMI–> LG TV <–HDMI ARC–> Denon Receiver
Plex client v7.16.1, Passthrough = HDMI

When I play a TV show with EAC3 5.1 audio, PMS always direct plays. It does not matter if I have the FireTV set to Stereo only, AC3 only, or EAC3 only.
