Transcoding question

My Samsung smartphone is capable of direct play eac3 audio codec. My android tv can’t.
If I use Plex android app on my phone and connect it to Plex android app on my tv via the app “connect to device” and click play, does the Plex server transcode the eac3 to opus because the android tv can’t direct play eac3, or does the Plex server not transcode eac3 because my phone that is being used to cast can direct play eac3? Which one is it?
I don’t own the server so I can’t check server side.
I wish that there is a GUI way to check the playback status when we cast it from our phone to our video, similar to what we have when we use the android app during playback.

Plex DocumentationCasting, Flinging, & Remote ControlOverview

Plex will transcode the audio.

When you fling the content to the TV, the stream does not run through your phone. It is redirected and runs from the server to the TV.

See the How it Works section of the Overview doc.

You can check the playback information on the target device.

There’s not a way to do that when you fling from phone to android tv, right?

If you are flinging to the Plex app and not Chromecast, you can still use your TV’s remote to call up the player controls to call up the playback information.
