Where to (safely) download previous versions of PMS for MacOS?

Hi,

As another post mentioned, I’m having issues with PMS crashing on our 202 Mac mini. This is the first time we’ve ever had Plex crashing in the nearly 2 years we’ve been running it on MacOS. One of the suggestions was to rollback to the last stable version of 1.28.

The thing is, I generally allow the server to auto update when a new version is released. It brings up a page asking to update when we launch Plex on our AppleTV and we generally let it do its thing (unless we’re traveling when we skip it till we’re back home). Because of this, I don’t have previous versions of PMS downloaded/saved and I checked the downloads page and didn’t see previous versions. I also don’t want to just do a websearch and download from a version that may have been altered.

  1. Where can one download a previous version?

  2. Is there any forum thread that I may have missed that shares info about upcoming Plex releases? If I can’t rollback, I’m hoping for a bug fix in the very near future.

Thanks!

Version#:1.26.1.6276
Player Version#: Latest AppleTV app, web interface, iPadOS

Turn plex off at the Chevron in the menu bar first please.

Whilst holding down the option key, find the Hidden Library in the Go menu.
Navigate to:
Library/Application support/Plex Media server/ updates.

Example:

Open Packages and drag a copy of the wanted version zip. Open/expand it on the desktop to create a Contents folder.

Then right click the plex app in the applications folder and select “Show Package contents”, drag that folder to trash and place the one on the desktop in it’s place.

Restart Plex.

Thanks so much for this information. I had no idea that one could find previous packages there.

Unfortunately, like your screenshot, the only versions available in my library are all 1.29.x - no 1.28.x. Any other place I can get 1.28.2x? Plex is now crashing continually and I need a stable copy before we travel.

Thanks again!

There a new update come through today worth a try.

Thanks for letting me know. I restarted PMS from its latest crash & the new version showed up. Updating now. May still have to rollback but it’s worth a try.

Thanks for that link. They did have many of the PMS previous versions - across a lot of platforms. Sadly, they don’t have all of them - 1.28.2x isn’t there. But I did grab an earlier version of 1.28x.

I also searched and found that the videohelp.com forums had a copy of the earlier version I was looking for. Any reason to be concerned about downloading from that site?

Sadly, the new version already crashed. :frowning: The thing is, some people were getting a new version that was the beta accidentally pushed out to the stable channel - then they received another notice to upgrade to a lower release number (back to stable). I’ve not yet gotten that notification, and don’t know if they are rolling out the lower stable version to everyone.
