Which ir-receiver for use with Harmony Touch & Plex

Hey guys,

So I'm using a Streacom case with their IR-receiver for my HTPC setup, but I'm having a hard time getting this receiver to work as I want. I've done some research on it and it seems like it's not RC-6 compatible, which limits its use a lot in Plex. I can use the arrow keys, start/stop, ffw and so on, but I've not been able to program it for keyboard shortcuts (like 'S' for subtitles on/off and so on)

I want to be able to send keyboard shortcuts, mouse control is not important.

Can you suggest a good ir-receiver that is easy to set up and works well with Plex ? If I can use Win+1 as a command to start Plex as the first program on the programbar, that would be great.

If anyone is using this receiver with a harmony touch/ultimate and Plex, and have it working with full keyboard functionality then please let me know. I feel like I've done what I can with this Streacom IR-receiver.

All you need is this receiver. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/321119874805?lpid=82

I have my PHT fully integrated and working well with harmony touch. Everything that I want to do works fine for me.

You can use eventghost for keyboard shortcuts assignments. Here’s a tutorial I wrote to show how I did it. https://forums.plex.tv/topic/92701-how-to-use-pht-with-a-mce-remote-with-eventghost-in-windows/ I

Thanks for the feedback breezytm !

So you only use eventghost for those special keys and events ? All single keystrokes is programmable through the Harmony setup ?

Gonna have to buy me one of those receivers. Wish I could use an internal one though.... !

No i use eventghost to leverage certain buttons. What i mean by that is there are some buttons on the default IR receiver designated to windows media center. Doesn't matter which application is open. If you press any of those buttons they will launch windows media center. With eventghost i can program these buttons to not launch windows media center but instead send it plex if plex is open. The harmony remote doesn't have a lot of buttons and I needed to use all buttons. If you need help program this thing when you receive it just send me a private message. I'll help you out.

The internal receiver you reference, hakongram, uses RC6 protocol, and very likely the external receiver referenced by breezytm is RC6 as well (I can't find confirmation of this, but Microsoft recommends this for MC certified remotes).  Personally, I would give the internal a shot:  I have a case that came with an internal IR receiver and remote, it's pretty convenient to actually be able to power the PC on and off with the remote, which cannot be done with an external IR receiver.

Make sense. Hakongram give the tutorial a try anyway. It still may workout the same way. My case didn't have an internal ir receiver but i had the external one laying around so i used it and it works great with my setup and the harmony remote. I don't worry about powering off the device since my httpc runs 24/7. But if i need to reboot for whatever reason i can do a restart using either windows media center, plex or xbmc.

Thanks for the feedback guys ! I actually went with the internal receiver I referenced. Had a chat with the guy that sells them and he said it was RC6 and should work for what I'm trying to achieve. I'll let you guys know how it turns out, and I might take you up on that help offer breezytm, thanks !
