Which PlexConnect am I running?

I originally installed PlexConnect into \\drive\users\my_name\PlexConnect. When the need came to install the certificates they were installed into this install. Then came OpenConnect and it installed a copy of PlexConnect into my applications folder. I see this is the one that Open Connect updates. But I also noticed that no certificates were installed in this installation. I'm using OpenConnect to start PlexConnect but am suspicious when I see no certificates in that install. Is there a way to tell which version is running?

I installed web connect and can see a few things from it. This is from the status log:

69363 /bin/bash /Users/authorized/PlexConnect/update/OSX/PlexConnect.bash

69373 python ./PlexConnect.py

69374 python ./PlexConnect.py

69375 python ./PlexConnect.py

69376 python ./PlexConnect.py

69402 grep -i plexconnect

*** File - /applications/plexconnect/plexconnect.log contents ***

*** File - /applications/plexconnect/settings.cfg contents ***

It appears as if my original install is still running but controlled by OpenConnect. I can start and stop it from OpenConnect but it appears to be updating the new install. I'm confused.

Unless you installed a plist prior to using OpenConnect from the looks of it you are now using a plist. When you pick a hijack using OpenConnect if no certs exist they will be generated for you automatically. If you have old certs place them in /applications/plexconnect/assets/certificates overwriting the certs. Once there using OpenConnect start and stop plexconnect. I assume you don’t have plexconnect running via terminal anymore. Once you decided to use OpenConnect you should not be using any folder besides the new one located in applications. A good way to test if OpenConnect is working is by rebooting your Mac and seeing if plexconnect is still running. The com.plexconnect.bash.plist is used to run plexconnect at boot without any user input if your mac is setup properly to do so. You are running plexconnect version 0.31+. Here is the roadmap:

OpenConnect is a helper app to manage plexconnect for OSX. It will clone multiple forks including the original plexconnect github. If you have any further questions about OpenConnect feel free to post in my topic in my signature.

I verified that the version that is auto starting is the old one in \\drive\users\my_name\PlexConnect. I'd like to remove it and start using the one installed by OpenConnect. I have no clue how to do that. Removing the folder stops PlexConnect from running so there must be more to it. Any hints?

Install plexconnect using OpenConnect. It will install the proper plist.

Should I delete both installs and start over with a new install? I can do that and copy over my certificates.

Yes. You can also use OpenPlex it is the latest app I coded. Video tutorial on post #1.

That's pretty awesome. I deleted everything and installed everything via openplex. Copied my certificates over and it works. I have a couple questions:

1. What does "PIL/Pillow Installer" do?

2. All my certificates say "trailer". What if I want to change to iMovie or the WSJ? Will they still work?

I think the Wahlmanj theme is great! Good work.

  1. It’s required using any theme besides mine currently.
  2. You would need to generate new certs for the specific hijack. Trailers certs only work for the trailers app. You can generate new certs by placing your old certs in applications/plexconnect_backup then you can click any of the icons to generate new certs. You would need to load the new certs on your atv. You can have multiple certs on your atv but only one per app that is able to be hijacked.
