im using plex server on a ubuntu 18.04 server and i cant add any user. if i click settings ->users the option “add user” simply does not appear anywhere…
thanks in advance.

Log files please, collected right after you attempt to add a user?

Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs.

I will see if I can help.

Managed users / Plex home does require an active Plex Pass. Your account is not showing one here in the forum SSO

I cant even attempt to add a user. no button or link for that…

I checked your account.
I do not see an active Plex Pass.

ok then. im passing.

passing on ?

passing through.

“Passing through” makes no sense. Please clarify your partial statement with a fuller one?

If you want to share your server with another Plex account you can do that by clicking on “Sharing” on the left under “Home Users”

I understand that you have to have a Plex Pass to add “users” (other family/friends). Do they ALSO have to be Plex Pass members or only the person owning the Plex server that you want to share with others.

You can share your Plex Media Server libraries with other users that have a free Plex account whether you or they have a Plex Pass or not. Sharing and remote access are free.

Creating a “Managed user” and other Plex Home features, like fast user switching and Home users access to mobile apps, require a Plex Pass for the Server administrator only

Is there a special process to share your library. I have it set up on my iPads/Apple TV. Do I set it up on theirs the same way? Just by signing into my Plex server account on their device? Can you point me toward a write-up or tutorial on how to set it up so I can share my library with others? I wouldn’t want the to accidentally mess up my account if I’m signed in as myself on their devices, so if there’s a different process to follow then I’d love to make sure I do it correctly.

Have them make their own free Plex account. They sign into whatever app they want themselves with their own Plex account

You go to setting, go to sharing, hit Invite friend. follow steps

Okay. I was successfully able to share my library. One last question. My music library includes some “voice memos” synced from my iPhone voice mail app.

Is there a way to lock certain library files/playlists so that those are not accessible by the family member that I shared the library with. There are certain files that I consider personal, but I don’t see a way to block certain files from the sharing process.

Is that only possible with the Plex Pass and the managed users?

Without a Plex Pass you can only limit by libraries.

You need a Plex Pass to set limits on what a shared user ( either managed or regular) can see within a library type. So you can for example say only allow movies rated PG and things with a certain custom label. https://support.plex.tv/articles/204232573-restricting-the-shares/

Okay. Thanks.

And I’m assuming that their plays (played/unplayed) won’t effect what shows as played/unplayed on my end? Since they’re in their own login?

yes plays are unique to each user.
