Why can't I cast from the local web app anymore?

Tried to cast from the webapp today and discovered that it now produces an error message:

" Casting to Chromecast requires a secure connection to the Plex Web app. Please visit https://app.plex.tv and try again."

What the hell? I’ve always been able to cast from here before - LOCALLY, without needing any kind of connection to Plex’s servers. Is this yet another attempt to force people into running things by Plex servers? I’m hopeful that it’s just a dumb oversight, but after the last 2 years of Plex development (which ignored pretty much everything I hoped for feature-wise, culminating with the stupid “streaming struggle” crap) I have zero faith in this software or the company developing it. Honestly, the only reason I am giving it a shot right now is because they made a real HTPC app for Linux and I was more than willing to give them a little bit more benefit of the doubt considering that.

So I guess what I’m asking here is, what’s going on with this? Is it intentional, or just a bug/mistake that looks bad?

It has require https for few years. You can use httpS://localIP:32400/web in instead of http ( it won’t actually be secure and may get browser warning) but it will work if you really don’t want to use app.plex.tv

The change was made in 2019 due to an update in chrome 72

Ah, gotcha that makes sense. At least I won’t have to go through adding Plex to my reverse proxy and certs just to be able to cast again  thank you for the quick response!
