Why can't PMP stay full screen (Windows 10) (Not answered as stated :( )

Just installed 1.2.1 and saw that. So I set it to TV, turned off my HT system, and left for a bit. Just got back home, turned system back on and PMP was super zoomed in. All I could see was the top left quarter of the screen. Had to completely exit and re-launch to restore back to a normal looking fullscreen. I dunno what’s happened but when it was still beta, it worked just fine. Ever since it went official and had a “stable” release, every time I turn my system on to watch Plex, PMP is always windowed and I have to go to settings and uncheck/check Fullscreen to get it to go back to normal. I was hoping this next update would fix that but obviously not. I have half a mind to just rollback to the last beta release since it was working 100% for me.

Try appending --fullscreen as a command argument to the shortcut that launches PMP.

I did that as soon as 1.2.0 released and saw others having the same problem. It didn’t work. I was hoping this internal option would fix it but it doesn’t look like it.

Works for me - maybe it’s not being applied correctly. Got a screenshot?

@Xen0sys I don’t, yet at least. I’m only home for a moment and about to leave again. I set everything back to how “it should be” and will see what happens again when I get home later. If it does it again, I’ll be sure to get a screenshot and share it. Thanks for the suggestions.

Here also nothing changed with the V1.2.1 release :frowning: and besides that the first time i started this release i had to grab my laptop because PMP wasn’t focussed en didn’t react on my programmed button.

Because i want the issue to be fixed i’ll try the command argument tomorrow and will let you know how that worked out.

Hope we don’t have to issue a thread every 10 months for the same ■■■■ in a different version. See historic thread below. :-w

Ok, so I got back and looked again. It’s still doing it. The first screenshot is with no --fullscreen tag added to the Target field in the shortcut to PMP and in the Settings menu of PMP it was set to TV and Fullscreen. The second screenshot is with --fullscreen added to the Target field in the shortcut to PMP and in the Settings menu of PMP it was still set to TV and Fullscreen. I also tried with the Layout set to Auto and the second image is what still happened. If I close PMP and relaunch it, it will load just fine. But once PMP is running and I shut down my HT system or switch inputs to use another device, when I come back to the PC it looks like one of these two images depending on how I have it set. With 1.2.0 it looked like image 1 but showed the whole PMP UI but now with 1.2.1, it only shows the zoomed in section as seen so I’m forced to exit and relaunch every time I want to use PMP.

Something that is contributing to the weirdness is Window 10’s switching displays when a monitor is turned off. One thing that can help is to install a vnc server (even temporarily) using something like tightvnc (or whatever you like). Use it to login to your HTPC when the monitor is off and you can then set the display resolution of the dummy monitor to be the same as your normal display. That should at least stop the resizing when the monitor is off. An alternative to using a vnc server is to edit the registry and try changing some of the “SIMULATED” entries (the web has this info).

Something else that helps with an HDMI display is to buy some hardware that prevents the computer being told that the monitor is off. This also has the advantage of making various programs work via vnc or remote game streaming (e.g. nvidia game streaming). Windows 10 loves to tell full-screen programs that their window is hidden whenever the monitor is off.

In the past I used to use the “Gefen HDMI Detective” back when my max resolution was 1920x1080 (it also helped to avoid HDMI audio issues to my receiver). These days with 4K TVs, I have resorted to using an HDMI splitter and a small HDMI plug that pretends to be a 4K monitor so that the computer is always told that a 4K TV is present, even when the TV is off (and I send the audio to the receiver via digital-out instead of HDMI).

One final possible work-around: if you can connect your computer to your TV via a more primitive standard (such as DVI or even VGA), Windows shouldn’t switch things around when the TV is off.

One of those should at least diminish the pain while you’re waiting for PMP to behave better.

Hi @wayned42 it’s not that i don’t appreciate your work and good advices but it worked prior to 1.2.0.and Plex also solved it in 1.0.6 so i quess they should fix it again so we don’t have to use workarounds.

Used “C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex Media Player\PlexMediaPlayer.exe” --tv --fullscreen and see result below.

I am seeing both of the above issues as well. The behavior is actually less predictable since the v1.2.1 update.

I have a similar issue with the new PMP(ver. 1.2.1) for Windows 10.
When the PMP is in Full Screen the Windows Task bar at the bottom does not go away.
Any way to make this go away? The task bar covers the video controls.

(Trying to post a picture but the attachment button is not working)

I didn’t have a problem on 1.1.7 but have since 1.2.0. I would like to just revert back until this issue is fixed since I see absolutely no value in managing my server through PMP (I’d MUCH rather have that option in the iOS app). Where could I found a download link for 1.1.7? Thanks!

I find the feature to enter and exit “TV Fullscreen” to be very annoying and have caused issues with the player not being able to achieve fullscreen as intended.

I’m sure there is a use/need for this fullscreen feature, however I don’t think it was implemented very well with this new update.

Also, I agree. I don’t see the need for server management within the PMP. PMP should be left at simply being a player. There are better ways for server management.

Here you go! I think you need V1.1.7.452-8a2b00e5 (but am not 100% sure).

@tobiashieta how can we assist to resolve this (annoying) issue?

Here are a couple screen shots showing my issue with fullscreen.
The windows task bar at the bottom does not go away.

Seems that Plex is still in “kind” of WIndows mode? Do you normally have black bars on the left and right?
Could you try to press CTRL+SHIFT+F to see if it changes?

The black bars on the sides are because my TV resolution is at 4k. 4096x2160. The video is 1920x1080. Not the same ratios.
When I press CTRL+SHFT+F I get the following. And I can’t go back without closing PMP.

@mshoward82 hope i didn’t (let you) break it further as it was before.
Think we have to wait for the Plex Team to get in action and picks up this issue. :frowning:
