Why the modifier when “m”, by itself, isn’t assigned?
Is this about a particular app/platform?
I guess it’s a Windows based shortcut but I haven’t used the Windows apps in some time, so I’m not sure…
Yes, sorry, should’ve said, while watching with Firefox on Windows. Further more, why can’t I customize KB shortcuts?
I wasn’t even aware that Ctrl+M was a thing – at least it’s not listed as a keyboard shortcut in the web app (at least not for me).
Exactly! Not only can I not customize, I can’t even find good documentation of the existing shortcuts. I had to find it the hard way.
CTRL-M makes perfect sense.
How so? When I could just press “m” without needing a second finger. I’m lazy like that.

No. That was a joke. It doesn’t make sense to me to have to add “Ctrl” (far from “perfect sense”). I favor efficiency, in general.
FWIW: I believe that ctrl+m is a standard FireFox (and maybe other browsers) keystroke combo to mute volume. Plex has nothing to do with that.
If you simply search for “Keyboard shortcuts for FireFox” you will get many many hits that give complete listings.
If you are using a different browser simply put the browser’s name in place of FireFox.
But it’s incomplete (Ctrl+m is missing, for example), which is why I said “good documentation”.

Don’t think it’s a “Firefox thing”, most other streaming services, it’s just “m”.
Perhaps, Plex is just relying on Firefox’s mute, while other services add their own.
I suspect that BeattifulCadaver is right.
I can ask about it but I suspect there’s a chance a clean-up will result in that shortcut to be removed (in case it is actually a Plex shortcut). I guess most users will tend to use their OS media keys these days anyway.
OK, so then, Plex doesn’t have a “mute” shortcut, and relies on Firefox’s. I’d still prefer to be able to customize KB shortcuts, and I’d still prefer simply “m” for muting.
Also, the old “most users will…” is no excuse for not supporting all the “other” users’ preferences.
I just looked it up and it is a FireFox “thing.” It is part of their standard shortcuts.
Go to: FireFox keyboard shortcuts and look up the “mute” function.
Yes, I got that. Plex doesn’t have a “mute” shortcut, like some others do. So, I’d like one, and I’d like it to be whatever key I choose. Thank God, Firefox does have one, since Plex doesn’t (even if it does mean an extra key).
