Why does every single update break everything?

Plex, we’ve been together a long time. In fact, I was once so enamored of you that I paid for a Lifetime Subscription. We’ve had many good times together…but there’s something I need to say to you.

Every so often, you get cranky. Back in the day, I used to delete you completely and reinstall you after every update, thinking hey: it’s probably not Plex, it’s probably me. Even though you claimed to be non-technical end-user friendly, I discovered that there’s no developer support, even though people pay money for you. And your other devotees’ proposed solutions are always so convoluted, missing vital steps, or futile, that I soon learned simply not to update you.

And then you started to break even if I didn’t update you. Sigh. Now, every single time PMS ‘updates’ it breaks remote access. Disable secure connections? Sure, I guess. DIsable my firewalls completely? Why not? I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you happy, Plex.

Plex on Android is utterly ridiculous. When I try and cast you to my tv via Chromecast, and then get a phone call, or heaven forbid, switch to another app? You lose your place, become confused, and start my program over again. You can never detect my Chromecast on the first try.

I have always had to manually update the servers, no matter what checkboxes I checked. Now it seems that in your old age you are slowing down. What once took mere moments now takes close to an hour. It seems that you insist on rescanning my entire library, no matter what I say.

So it comes down to this Plex: I don’t stand for this sort of behavior from the other apps in my life. Why have I stuck around so long with you?

Maybe it’s my naive hope that one day you’ll change. Or maybe it’s the 80 bucks I spent on you, on top of paying for mobile apps back in the day. But that’s just not a good enough reason to stay in a dysfunctional relationship, is it? I want my soul back. I want the hours of my life I spend searching hopelessly in your support forums back.

Basically, what i’m saying is: can anyone recommend a good alternative to Plex?
