Why does Plex keep re-enabling subtitles?

I’m watching a show on Plex for Web, and every new episode it keeps re-enabling subtitles and I have to manually turn them off. This seems like something that should be easy to change, right from the subtitles menu, if it’s going to happen at all.

Anybody else having this issue?

  1. your language preferences are so, that they cause the subtitles to get enabled automatically. https://support.plex.tv/articles/204985278-account-audio-subtitle-language-settings/
    You must inspect the video files and verify that the language tags on both the audio and the subtitle tracks are present and correct. Incorrectly tagged tracks can cause incorrect automatic selections of audio/subtitles.
  2. you have watched this series before on this server, using the same user account. While doing so, you have enabled the subtitles manually. Or someone else who has access to your user account, or any of your Plex clients did. (You may have later replaced the video files with different versions, which have a differing number and/or ordering of subtitle tracks.)
  3. You may have edited the show’s (as a whole) properties and have selected overriding language preferences which trump those from 1)
