Now if my Shared Users can see THEIR Unwatched items and NOT MINE… we’ll have something. I have no idea what’s happening out there in the world. I guess I’ll find out.

I have been using a “15 random unplayed” collection as a row displayed in my library recommendations tab (not users yet because of the bug) and I like it. Helps when wife and I just want to play something random but don’t want to pick from hundreds of titles; less daunting.
I also like that the row on the library page itself doesn’t refresh - not until after a bit of time. Makes it easier to browse the row options that way. If we see two titles we’re debating between and want to read the summaries or watch the trailers of each to pick one, it doesn’t reset the row.
If you go into a randomized collection on Collections page it will change content every time you back out and re-enter.
It’s a QoL improvement for me for sure. Same with the “Unplayed Recently Released” collection row replacing the default recently released row on the Home Screen… MUCH better for me.

The 40 Randomized Smart Movie Collection on the Home Page (All Movies AFTER 2018 - for now) only resets if you change something in the Movie Library. Adding a Movie, or changing a watch status for one of the items will do it. Entering, browsing, then backing out doesn’t change it at my house.
I don’t look at the Collection anywhere, but the Home Screen, so I haven’t noticed what happens anywhere else. I do often hit the end and view all in a grid, and that doesn’t bother the pick either - at my house.
I think it depends on the client. I have a feeling it updates whenever the client requests it from the server. Different clients seem to request & cache it differently.
I really like the “Random Recent Unplayed” suggestion, thank you both.
Well.. credit where it’s due… It works just as well as ‘Start Watching’ for Shows. Maybe better.
I like it - but still don’t know if my Shared Users are seeing my Unwatched, or Theirs… the investigation continues.
It’s one of my new favorite things in Plex and the wife in particular likes it - she hated scrolling through hundreds of titles trying to find what to watch. Kinda like the “don’t ask where people want to eat, give two options and have them pick” solution. 
The different clients makes sense but Web, iOS and Roku all seem to at least be “delayed” refresh on the Home Screen and I hope it stays that way.
It’s your unwatched - or more accurately the admin’s unwatched. I was tracking the post about the bug (acknowledged) but a few folks were a bit spammy so I’m just waiting to see it in a release note to flip them back on for my users. In the meantime I use it for myself because it’s my server anyways. 
I also have a “random” that users can see on their recommended movies library screen that just doesn’t include the “watched” flag for now so they get some benefit.

If that’s the case, this fleet of Rokus are ready, willing and able to get the latest ‘version’ - in real time - at the drop of a hat, so if the list was going to update unexpectedly - it would have… and so far, so good.

Making the Music Work will Work-Around my 3 Music RAs that must be removed from the Home Screen - due to the Other Videos Merge Bug… particularly not being able to Merge lest Other Videos Goes Away…
Can’t do an Other Videos Random - those Portrait Posters are a slap in the face, but for some reason a Square Artist Image works fine (probably just not showing the top or bottom of the Portrait - maybe).
New Features to Work-Around Old Bugs…
