Why doesn't Plex attempt to record the next airing when one fails?

If a recording fails, why doesn’t plex attempt to record the same show at another time? Is there no option to make this happen?

Do you set it to record all episodes of a show, or just one specifically?

If it’s all episodes, then do you have it record “New and repeat airings” or just “new airings only”?

And I’m curious how it failed to record the episode in the first place.

It is set to new airings only. In this case, the channel had issues so it failed. There is another airing but it doesn’t look like the recording is scheduled.

Edit. It is scheduled to record the next airing so it worked. The trick was disabling partial recordings.

I think that the TV guide provider that Plex uses for us is able to mark an episode of a show as “new” or “rerun”. Plex then uses that information to determine if it should record or not, using that option I asked about. I think Plex is so stupid, it has no way of knowing if the “new episode” recording failed, so it assumes that all other airings of the show are reruns.

I don’t know of any way to foolproof fix this if the original airing fails. You can manually record the next re-air of the episode manually and it should be lumped in with the rest of the episodes. If you keep all episodes, consider telling Plex to record “new and repeat airings”. I THINK that Plex will keep only one copy of each episode. It may record and replace the previous file, or record then immediately delete the reair (I have no experience with this feature).

Edit to your edit: Oh, good then?
