I have the Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD it is working on Windows 10 where my Plex server is installed. I set up my Plex server and things were going well, then after a couple of days Plex stopped recording any shows, shows the error “unknown error occured”.
Does this thing work at all yet?
I’m not even sure to begin with this. I picked up an HDHomeRun CONNECT, hooked it up, verified I’ve got signal. Plugged it into Plex.
I don’t think I’ve had a single successful recording yet.
- Recordings that do work are usually minutes long
, instead of 30-60 minutes. - Every once in a while I end up with recordings that are hours long.
- I’m guessing the second item there is causing the 3rd problem (as a tuner is “sucked up”), which is scheduled recordings don’t even attempt.
And obviously the file sizes make no sense. I attempted both on Windows and Linux with the current (at least as of yesterday), PlexPass version
I had the same issue last night. I have an HDHomerun Connect and I did a test recording of the evening news the other day and it worked perfectly and recorded in full HD.
I set it up to record an hour-long TV show last night and it recorded about 11 mins and then the rest of the file seems corrupted. Also, Plex and VLC report that the run time of the file is 1 hour 38 mins, which is way off. The video quality is atrocious when I play it back through Plex, but when I open the .mkv file in VLC it looks amazing. Still cuts after about 11 minutes. Sound cuts out around 9 minutes.
I’ve tried experimenting with optimizing different versions but playback through Plex (and VLC) of the optimized versions look just as bad.
I didn’t have verbose logging on until now, so I’ll try to record another show and post back with the logs. The recording said it was successful in Plex and gave no indication that there had been a problem or abort or transcode error.
At this point, I’m just trying to figure out if this is an antenna issue, a Plex issue, a transcoder issue (I do not have “transcode while recording” turned on in the HDHomeRun Connect settings in Plex), etc.
So at least for me, this turns out this was an antenna problem. Plex handles this VERY not gracefully.
I had an inside antenna that was maybe catching 8 channels, and only two or three well. I didn’t realize this until I installed the HDHomerun Xbox app, and tried watching a few shows throughout the day. When I was trying to record, I basically had no signal. At night, I had an “ok” signal, which was usually when I was trying to watch live.
Once I installed an antenna on the roof, I got 30+ channels, and full reliability through the day. Suddenly Plex DVR worked without fail.
So I guess if you don’t have great signal, Plex DVR will do weird things.
