Yes, please PLEASE can we edit cast metadata?? Or fix how the data is pulled? Because I'm getting a little tired of seeing "12 Monkeys" starring "Jon Seda, Rick Warner, Christopher Meloni, "Back to the Future" starring "George DiCenzo, Huey Lewis, J.J. Cohen", and "The Godfather" starring "Sonny Grosso, Gray Frederickson, Carmine Coppola.
Not being able to edit all of the meta data and the horribe Plex Home Theater app are the 2 main things that fall short of XBMC
+1 for edit metadata
Just added "Mission Impossible 1/2/3/4", "Minority Report", "Magnolia" and Tom Cruise is not in the cast? I have at least 8 movies with Tom Cruise as Lead Character and when I filter by Cast with "Cruise"... it comes up empty!?!
None of the movie I got with Tom Cruise has his name in the Cast List.
At this point, it is much more than a bit silly, it is plain wrong and makes the "Filter by Cast" pretty much useless.
I noticed that the Cast field is missing the Lead Character for at least 20% of the movies.
PLEASE FIX THIS!!!!!!!
I was surprised to see that I couldn't edit cast. There are times when I've wanted to do a sort of mini-festival by actor (all the movies that Bill Murray's starred in, for example). Not every movie I have has every primary cast member. For example, just got a copy of The Andromeda Strain, and I noticed that Kate Reid, arguably one of the more famous members of the cast of that 1971 movie, is not listed, nor can I add her. Adding the field to add or change cast members seems a no-brainer.
I've got both Skyfall and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in my library, but no Daniel Craig in the actor list. Also have all eight Harry Potter movies in the Library, but no Daniel Radcliffe. All the Star Wars movies, no Mark Hamill or Carrie Fisher.
Please make the cast field editable.
I need this too, very surprised to see that this is a known issue for over 2 years already.
+1 for editing of cast. With the passing of Robin Williams, I wanted to view my movies and comedy specials to watch his movies. I have about 8 or 9 movies of his but NOTHING came up on his name search. I would have to say missing that is a 8 out of 10 for me on priority functionality.
+1 on making CAST metadata editable. I just now wanted to change the cast because it did not contain the main actor in the starring role of the movie! Not having this correct made me think the movie was mismatched with another movie of similar historical originations (Clash of the Titans vs. Wrath of the Titans).
+1 on editable CAST!
+1 on editable cast too
PS: If I remember it was possible in the first plex (Before the server/client mod)
Almost every post I've seen complain about the lack of an ability to edit actor metadata for commercial videos. At least with these videos, you can get SOME metadata. For "personal" videos which don't show up in online databases, the ability to display metadata is not at all possible with one small exception: if the video file is a MP4, you can embed the actor information into the metadata of the file. WMV's appear to have the same constructs, but Plex doesn't read the metadata for these. And AVI's don't have any such thing as metadata.
I assume Plex is storing this data ANYWAY, so why can't we edit it?
Aside, this is not a Mac specific problem. It exists across the board, regardless of platform.
I was having this problem also. In this case for cast it said: "encoded by so-and-so." But I also have other movie files with he wrong actors.
In this case I discovered that the cast tag was in the video file itself. I used a metadata editor, MetaZ on my Mac, to open the file, and I changed that tag by adding the actors.
I'm going to try this on some other videos.
I dislike the new metadata editor in Plex. The old way was much better.
A really odd omission. I’d also like to be able to select a cast member and peruse other works they may have been in.
Thanks for the PHP script. In terms of a "home video library", not having the ability to add family members makes Plex almost useless for me. Thanks for the PHP script @yomama_de. Will definitely try it out. Seems like an awful amount of work you had to put in for something that should already be included. For those who have trouble figuring out how to add code to the app an alternative would be use something like iFlicks (paid) or MetaZ / iDentify / Subler (all free). These are for Mac users only, but I know there is a MetaX/MetaZ for PC too.
Bottom line though (in my opinioin)...
Needing to use a Metadata editor or adding additional code seems pretty ridiculous when the whole point of PLEX is to have a media library where you can organize and edit your media. Hope to see this added in the near future as well as all other XMP relevant fields like geospatial metadata to add video location for those using Plex as a personal video library.
I would love to see editing cast implemented to! It would be great to add persons to the cast in my home movies.
+1 for editable cast! I thought I was doing something wrong but now that I read about it, it seems pretty silly that it is not possible... There's got to be a reason for that?
+1 for editable cast.
Wow, an official Plex representative said in March 2012 – alsmost THREE YEARS ago we should say that we want this, lots of people did, and it's still the same old problem.
The movie "Hackers" with Angelina Jolie and Jonny Lee Miller doesn't list those two at all. And thus, the film isn't findable if you filter for them. In fact, Jonny Lee Miller doesn't even APPEAR on the actor filter list (which, btw, is a pain in the butt to scroll through with an Apple remote to get to a letter near the middle of the alphabet).
So, here's my +1 for editable cast members as well but since we waited so long and nobody from the Plex team seemed to care I have no hope anymore that we will see this some day.
Btw, where does the cast info come from and why is it so that the main cast members are almost always NOT in Plex's cast list?
Yes, please. I've lots of Opera, and that's not found in themoviedb or freebase, so I really need to be able to add cast manually.
I post some time ago in the plex request feature the ability for plex to search movies with base on Actor Name's.
I think the cast search in plex doesn't work like should be.
Even on XBMC when you look for an actor you can see the actor face..
I just say could be a nice feature find all movies of i don't know "Jessica Biel ?" :)
+1 on being able to edit cast!
My example is for Jackie Chan movies whoever input the info into the database had the bright idea to list the Actor as "Jackie Chan", "Jackie Chan/Sammo Hung" or "Jackie Chan/Sammo Hung/Yuen Biao" rather than separate the actor's names. I get the same data no matter which database I try to pull from. I was shocked that I'm not able to fix this.
