Why is cast not editable in metadata?

Wow, an official Plex representative said in March 2012 – alsmost THREE YEARS ago we should say that we want this, lots of people did, and it's still the same old problem.

...

So, here's my +1 for editable cast members as well but since we waited so long and nobody from the Plex team seemed to care I have no hope anymore that we will see this some day.

All of the +1's in this thread are quite literally useless! (https://forums.plex.tv/topic/139657-how-to-create-a-feature-request/)

"Simply replying to the topic thread does not count as your up-vote."

If you want to support this "feature" (editing of metadata), go here and "LIKE THIS" post (only reply if you have something to contribute):

https://forums.plex.tv/topic/145332-feature-request-editing-tools-for-tvshowsmovies/?hl=edit

and the related feature request for altering the number of actors listed:

https://forums.plex.tv/topic/144868-option-to-change-the-limit-of-cast-members-and-genre-tags-displayed-in-plex-web/?hl=edit

Huh, both those links above give an error that says eiher I don't have permission to see them or they don't exist (very helpful).  Are they only available to Plex Pass holders?

At any rate, there are at least *3* issues here that can be usefully separated, the first of which is a series *bug* and the other two are features.

1) *BUG*: It appears that Movie metadata is missing the major actors in most movies.  Is it not pulling in some particular field from Freebase correctly?  This makes browsing by actor fairly useless.

2) Editing of actor/cast metadata should be possible

3) Longer lists of names in the Cast field would be nice.

The updated links for those are:

Keep having permission problems on those links… can’t vote, can’t event see the page.

Dawned on me today that Basic Instinct 2 lists neither Sharon Stone or David Morrissey under cast - but instead less known actors in supporting roles like “Stan Collymore, Heathcote Williams, Flora Montgomery, Jan Chappell, Indira Varma”.

Seems like a fix in how Plex fetches this information is in order.

+1 though for being able to edit cast as well, in the case that Plex gets the occasional cast wrong.

Would be great to bring the actor search back, so that one may simply select an Actor’s name and see all films starring that particular actor. But this of course requires that accurate information is fetched in the first place.

Otherwise thumbs up for a great product! Keep up the good work!

Permission Problem
You don’t have permission to do that. :frowning:

This still not being an option is frustrating.

Why is Cast not editable? It really sucks to have to split a movie and enter all that metadata only to go looking for a movie to watch and the cast is wrong. Please allow us to edit CAST as well so the info is correct as cast really stands out

I agree that having unhelpful cast lists consisting of a handful of minor characters is really annoying. But **it’s easy to fix! ** In the web client, go to Settings/Server/Agents/The Movie Database, and drag The Movie Database to the top of the list (above Local Media Assets). Then Update Library from the main menu. Ta-daa! Perfect cast lists.

why i can’t edit actors ? it’s really a pain for movies not listed online, i can’t find some movies because actors are not in metadata, please allow us to edit it

bump, I would also like this feature to be added, which doesn’t really look like much to add. Unable to change/add cast to a movie in metadate! Thanks in advance support.

This should really be added in…

Tried this, didn’t work issues persist regarding missing cast.

This is a feature that really needs to be added in. I use it Plex only for my home use and only with my own stuff so that I don’t have to take stuff all over the house to watch it in different places. I added a digital copy of Psych season 1 and it took random episodes and screwed everything up. Like for Episode 6: Weekend Warriors, it changed it to Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi. This is annoying, but easily changed…expect I’m pretty sure that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford are not staring in Psych. I and I can’t change this. This tends to happen randomly throughout some of the TV series I run through Plex.

In PMS settings, set up your agents correctly.

Has anyone come up with a solution for this? I’ve got a couple of movies that have either imported the wrong cast information or have no cast information at all. I’d like to be able to edit this

This was (really) irritating me but I’ve finally found a solution which seems to be working for MP4 files.

I downloaded the Kid3 tag editor from Sourceforge which allows cast information to be edited in the “artist” field (just separate the cast members with commas).

After saving the changes, a quick metadata refresh in Plex brings in all of the correct data. Happy days!

(Incidentally, I think MKVToolnix might work for mkv files but it’s not something that I’ve needed to look into).

This worked like a champ, thanks!

7 years later (nearly, soon) and not implemented.
Hope to find this feature in Plex one day. Would make some things easier.
