To continue the question: Why is it every time I pause video and go to resume it, PLEX times out and decides to skip to the next video? I have been watching some shows on my PLEX server and when I pause any episode of any show and then resume it… it times out, goes to the default gray screen and then skips to the next episode. It’s like it thinks the episode, only a few minutes in, has ended and moves on to the next in the list.
How long do you pause it?
That almost sounds like the server is going to sleep and waking up too slowly. I have not seen that behavior but I have all “sleep” and power saving functions turned off on my server and I never use auto-play of any kind,
In my setup a similar failure would produce just an exit of the currently playing item but I have not see that either.
I would check the sleep functions on the server and either turn them off or change them so that the server goes to sleep more slowly and/or wakes up faster.
It could also be the disk(s) that are shutting down and you might want to check the various disk settings for power saving etc.
It’s never happened before. I am running PLEX Media Server on Ubuntu Server 14.04.4 x64. The episodes are typically paused for about a minute or two… definitely not long enough for the disk(s) to spin down. The server is not set up to go to sleep or into a lower power mode.
I do know that this particular media is on ANOTHER server (same OS) though. I ran out of HDD bays so I set up another identical server where the primary PLEX server grabs media from using samba shares. PLEX is not installed on this other server.
This has never happened before as I have been running this setup for some time. It seems to have only started after the most recent PLEX update.
What it sounds like is happening is that PLEX is pulling the media from this other server and when I pause it… it mistaken’s the last chunk received as the end of that episode. When I go to resume the episode it then thinks it needs to go to the next episode in the list.
Are you referring to pausing on Plex web? If so, this has been reported and the devs are investigating. If it is some other client, we’ll need more details.
Yes, it’s just PLEX web accessed at the server address.
Here is a copy of the log file. Sorry about not posting this before, I probably should have done that to begin with.
