Why is new app saying I am offline when I am not?

Try setting the ios quality settings to 720p 2Mbps while on home network. This workaround seems to have worked for me since plex guys are too busy selling the passes and they don’t have the time to fix bugs. I get offline label in ios apps only when the home streaming quality is set to ‘recommended’ or ‘Maximum’. So basically, even if Im in my bedroom, I can’t enjoy my 1080p content without downgrading it to 720p.

Strangely enough it all works fine all of a sudden. It seems changing the quality of internet play has no effect on the ability of the iOS app to connect with the server. I have no idea what changed.

I constantly have this problem.

I am on ios 11.4.1 on a iphone 6s plus

Running a 5ghz wifi network, not on vpn

Yes I can acess plex.tv in the browser when my app shows offline.

Starting to think that my plex pass is my worst investment ever.

Out of the blue I had this issue yesterday (after no having signal for about 5-6 hours, in and out of airplane mode) — got back on WiFi and Plex wouldn’t go back online even after toggling offline mode on then off. Restarted the Plex app and it was fine. iPhone X iOS 11.4.1, latest Plex app beta, latest Plex server beta.

Still an issue, latest iOS 12 beta close to release now, any update on this bug being fixed?

I was this close to buying a Plex Pass before this popped up and the length of time and tots silence except when called out is appalling service.

Out of interest, I’ve installed Emby and this issue does not exist there. Personally I’m a big fan of plex so do hope this is fixed before release.

Why oh why the app has an override of sorts to state its offline rather than following the systems network status is beyond me, it shouldn’t be an issue.

Another Android User here with the same issue. My network is up and running as is Plex, however apps will not connect even when both devices are on same network.

I would post my logs but given the fact that there is now such an extended period of time that no fix has been forthcoming I have no interest in doing so.

Additionally I feel that I should add that these issues started with the update that changed the UI and if there is no fix soon I will have to explore other options - I am so glad right now that I never spent the money on a Plex pass.

Agreed. This is getting frustrating. There have been both server and iOS client updates since reporting this issue but it has not been fixed. There has also not been any communication since a Plex employee acknowledged the bug. I may have to suspend my monthly Plex pass until this gets sorted out. If it ever does.

It should not be doing any sort of self network check, simple as that. It should rely on the system, this is a self caused issue.

Tested with an old iphone with old version of PLEX. works flawlessly… so they broke it with the update and new app…

Same issue here on Android… I unfortunately did spend money on a Plex pass so I’m hoping to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment once it’s working again I guess.

This is also happening to me as well. This is not working on two different iOS devices but the Roku app and web clients work fine. I’ve restarted the server several times, renamed the server, and closed the apps on the devices. Still the same behavior big red “OFFLINE” next to everything. I really hope this is a temporary issue given that 50% of my plex use is from my mobile client.

Please see attached logs

Same issue on latest Android version - all was working fine and I manually toggled ‘Offline Browsing’ since I was testing out the remote content-sync feature - and when I toggled it back OFF the app still thinks it’s offline. Tried connecting to WiFi and 4G, force-stopped the app and opened it again - no joy.

I did find that if I went into the device apps and ‘cleared cache’ and ‘cleared data’ to start it afresh - this worked but of course I lost my sync’d content and had to re-login to the app etc etc.

C’mon plex guys - this feature has NEVER worked well ! We’re paying subscribers to your service !! Everything else about the product works awesomely well and we’re grateful for such an excellent piece of software !

Many thanks !

Enough. Trying out Emby now. Heard their customer support is much better.

Same tbh. Let me know how you get on.

iOS 12 GM
Latest Plex update

Same issue! Done now thanks for ruining an amazing platform with a self caused issue and not fixing it for months, but I’m done turning off my VPN to use Plex when on 4G and it’s about to effect all my iOS 11 devices next week when it updates.

Still silence from the Plex team, total joke. Hello Emby.

SIGH - Another Plex app update on iOS and still this issue remains…I wonder if any progress is being made on this internally, or if everyone has been re-assigned to fix podcast support.

This happens every other time I try to use the app. I usually just mess around with the app and it eventually works. This time I did browse offline I think it’s called, just turned that on tried to open something, then went back and turned it off and was online again. Next time that might not work though…

I had the exact same issue. ios 11.4.1 on iPhone 6 Plus. Latest iOS app, latest server and my app was just saying “Offline” for every category and when clicking on “movies” tab, it would say the server is offline. My roku device on the TV would connect just fine along with the server showing things just fine. After finding this thread, I tried deleting the app and re-installing the app, and everything on the app is working now.

Whoever is your engineer/programmer, they need to do updates properly to where it doesn’t require users to uninstall the app.

Same thing here. iOS app shows offline on home screen (new layout sux BTW) but I can still play movies, shows, and music from those sections. Noticed this maybe a month ago but figured it would get more attention. Was kinda surprised how old this thread is.
Hope you get it figured out because I don’t have time to try other servers right now.
Not using VPN here. latest iOS on iPad Pro. Toggled offline mode when I was flying earlier in the summer. Maybe that’s when I noticed it. Offline is off now of course.

So official release is out, still experiencing the issue on my iPhone X with iOS12 release and now every other iOS device. Fun.

Glad I didn’t waste my money supporting a company that can’t support their users.
