Im experiencing a weird issue where some iOS devices, all running on the latest version of iOS and the latest version of Plex (7.19) are unable to connect to PMS. It says the server is offline.
However other devices (incl other iOS) will connect to the PMS completely fine. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the Plex app to no avail.
All devices are connecting on the same network, connecting to the same PMS. All simultaneously.
Server is running 1.23.3.4707
What info can I provide to help diagnose the issue?
Thought I was alone, but having the same problem with android devices. Everything works fine on my 3 windows devices, however I have about 5 android devices where I get a generic error message whenever I try to play something off my server. Hopefully there’s an answer out there somewhere
I have the same problem.
Android devices cannot see the server.
Everything is fine through the browser and windows client.
Having the same problem with both IOS 7.19.1 and iPadOS apps. Web and TV app work fine.
Yeah happens on random devices. For me though, they’re all Apple devices.
Clearing cache, deleting apps, etc makes no difference.
Server is reachable on other devices.
Just found out that disconnecting from wifi allows me to connect to the server? Which is odd seeing the fact that i was able to use plex app before on wifi? Only apple apps as well.
Update: Enabling Settings > Network > Enable Relay worked for me while on wifi. Not sure why?
Same here. It’s this thread all over again: Why is new app saying I am offline when I am not? - #261
I’m on a Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 and my wife is on a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. When connecting to my server on wi-fi, we’re told the server is offline. When navigating to plex.tv through the browser, WHILE STILL ON WI-FI, we connect just fine (see below).

Glad I’m not the only one. However, for me on wifi or off wifi doesn’t matter. Android devices see server as offline while all other devices are fine (don’t have any iOS but things like Roku and desktop players).
I actually believe I just found a fix.
In the app go Settings > Advanced > Allow insecure connections. This was set to “never”. Changing that to something else and then killing the app and opening it again fixed the problem.
Too late for me to figure out why my server isn’t a “secure connection” but I’ll figure that out tomorrow. Just glad to be able to stream again.

Two more family members arent able to connect to my server anymore on their mobile devices. Doesn’t matter what network they are on.
However the server is up and running, and is accessible through other mobile devices and web/tv apps
Can we please get a response from the Plex team on this?
Unfortunately I can’t do this as I run my server through a reverse proxy and SSL.
hello,
i have a similar problem.
also i have a reverse Proxy (Nginx Proxy Manager) for ssl. But it works for some time and than my iOS-App breakts down. When i restart the Playback then my iPhone says that it is not possible to play because of an error. About 5 to 10 minutes, or so, later it is working again flawlessly. I could not test it, how long it is working again. But i will and report back.
I recognised that on wifi it is woring fine. And yes it is also using the reverse proxy. Only on cellular it has this strange behavior.
any ideas?
thanks

@marinersfan000 Thanks mate! My Samsung TV had issues viewing all Users in Plex.
This worked really nicely. My server settings different slightly. (running on unraid Plex docker)
Settings > Advanced > Secure connections: Set to “Disabled”.
I just set up a reverse proxy and am having similar issues. I can access my server just fine with the app when on wifi but when I switch to cellular it shows as offline. Yet I can access my server via the web browser and my reverse proxy.
I saw someone somewhere comment about the mobile apps including :433 in the request to the server domain name. Could this be a bug in the ios app?
I noticed when I clicked the link at plex.tv on my account page to access my server, it does indeed manually add the :443 port. I’m unsure of how to handle that in nginx.
Plex uses this: http://plex.<mydomain.com>:443/web/index.html
I have installed Plex Media Server, it is online in pc, my brand new LG G1 will not connect, my Fold 2 will not connect, says offline on my phone, on same network, TV is wired Lan and phone in Wifi, need a fix please as signed up for plex pass also and wanting to cancel it if it is not fixed, I can play anything on my pc from the library but cannot access from local connection, help
I’m using an old ipad mini 1 and I don’t see this option in advanced
Thank God I’m not the only one though. I literally just payed money to unlock the ios device activation
I have the same issue on two old iPads but new iPhone and newer iPad are fine!
Very very strange. Hope there’s a fix soon
Thanks, I changed the “Allow Insecure Connections” to “Always” and now it works. There seems to be a bug in the app that it adds a port number where it shouldn’t when looking for secure connections? Not sure, but it wasn’t there before and it is now.
Of course, now I have an insecure connection…
Hi, where do you find that in the app?
