Why is Plex not matching my movies?!

Yep. I see the 300+ directories and they all get skipped. I’m betting the database has entries thinking the movies already exist. Usually the Plex dance can help clear that up. Do this:

  1. Move all files for the show out of ‘sight’ of Plex (ie: cut/paste to new location)
  2. Update library (‘not force update’ not ‘Refresh all’)
  3. Empty trash
  4. Clean bundles
  5. Double check naming schema and move files back
  6. Update library

I followed your directions and now it looks like they have some metadata but NONE of them have posters

Repeat the “close Plex Server” steps and do another library update (click on the update button, not the refresh button), then do a refresh of the library. After it’s done upload the scan log.

Before that, do an optimize on the database.

It will take time to download all the posters and metadata. Are you sure everything has completed?

what exactly do you mean when you say “close plex server”? what i’ve been doing is I click on the app tray, right click the Plex icon and click exit.

That. But before doing anything, give your server time to download everything. 300+ movies will take some time to gather metadata and images.

another note: I have 2 or 3 items that are rather obscure so I have local assets for their posters. Is that somehow throwing it off for the rest of them?

I gave it some time. I waited until all the messages across the bottom stopped. Normally when metadata is downloading it will show a tag icon where the poster would be, but none are showing that.

Local assets should be at the bottom of the agents for movies.

Plex Movie: plex movie at the top, followed by local assets
The Movie Database: the movie database, followed by local assets

And I want to reemphasize that it is only the posters that are not downloading now. Other metadata appears to be good.

You’e got some errors in the com.plexapp.agents.imdb log:

I’m not sure what to make of those.

Same thing in your com.plexapp.agents.themovedb log:

This one looks to be a permissions issue in the cache. Perhaps Plex can’t write to that location. Check permissions and see if that’s where the problem is.

I wish I were savvy enough to know what you mean, alas, I do not.

Go to C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Caches (you might have to go back one directory so you can right click on the Caches directory) and right click on that directory, select properties, then click on the security tab. Take a snapshot of that window and post it here so we can see what the permissions look like.

Oh, in that window you should see your admin user (I believe the name is owner in your case). Click once on that user, and there should be checkmarks next to “allow” for every permission.

The only thing not checked is “special permissions”

Ok, go into that directory and check the permissions on com.plexapp.agents.themoviedb and com.plexapp.agents.imdb.

They appear the same
