Why is the new Plex Agent such garbage?

I’ve had this problem before, so I switched agents, but after being nagged to upgrade, I did, but I did NOT click on update libraries. It did it for me anyway, and guess what? All of my episodes are now in the wrong f’ing order, because the Plex agent doesn’t seem to understand how to negotiate changes to episode ordering such as DVD order versus release order. F!!!

Then to top it off, I get a nag to upgrade my library in the same damn area that notifies me of server upgrades when the “alleged” upgrade is a downgrade! Please fix your program for me and every other paying customer. This is absurd!

Edit the show by clicking the pencil icon on either the poster from the library view or to the right of the play button at the top level of the show (make sure you are not at the season level).

From the Edit TV Series modal click the Advanced option on the left side at the bottom. In the right panel look for the “Episode ordering” section (might need to scroll down slightly) and then from the drop down select TheTVDB (DVD) and then click save changes. After doing that refresh the metadata (just to be safe, it might do it automatically) and your metadata should be correct again for that series.

On the off chance you were using DVD order for the entire library, you can make that change at the library. Similar steps as above but you need to edit the library but once you get that edit modal up, the steps are the same to change the option.

Also, by default Plex uses TMDB for the ordering, so if you prefer TVDB as the default, you will want to change that at the library level and then you can alter that option on a per series basis if/when needed.

I already have my Show in DVD order. I’m saying that this functionality is broken. The only fix is to not “upgrade” the agent in the first place.

Or are you suggesting that the agent is too dumb to get it right the first time and I have to refresh the metadata once again after I change the agent?

You shouldn’t use TheTVDB agent; instead, you should use the Plex Series agent, and in the advanced settings for the show, select TheTVDB (DVD) episode ordering. And yes, after changing the agent and settings, you’ll need to refresh the metadata.

And also, your files need to be named according to TheTVDB (DVD) episode ordering, otherwise, it will still be chaotic.
