I have searched all over the forums and I see several posts, but no clear answers. When the bandwidth between the server and client is not the issue, why does it take so long to transfer the already transcoded files? By a long time, I am suggesting that it takes longer to transfer the file then the length of the original run time of what is being transferred in the future.
Personally, I have seen this in both the Win10 and Android apps. However, I also see posts about this for other platforms.
I am talking about the Sync feature that allows you to pre-transcode and sync to a device to use offline, not the Cloud Sync that sends things to cloud storage providers.

Mobile Sync. It takes a while to transfer the file because 1. it’s generally pre-transcoded first, that takes time, then the transfer starts 2. probably your connection speed to the server is not very fast?
If you are on the same network, the transfer should go as fast as your network allows. If it is going slow, check to make sure your device sees your server as local/nearby and not remote, otherwise the transfer is going out through your internet and back in. The easier way to check is to use your phone and open up PlexWeb. In the server pull down, it will show “nearby” under the name of your server if it is local, if not you will see “remote”.
They are NOT on the same network, but they have ~50-60Mbps connection to transfer from the server to the client. (tested, not just theoretical). This has not been an issue in the past (several versions ago now, pre-“brain”) so maybe the new network transfer settings are causing an issue, even though it is set to be unlimited at this point.
What settings do you have in Settings -> Remote Access -> Internet Upload Speed? Also, when you say they are going slowly, do you have numbers as to exactly what rate it is transferring? Lastly, is anyone streaming anything at the time you are seeing slow transfers?
On my network, I have found that the slow transfer in fact comes from WIFI transfer speed (~10Mbits/s) to my iPhone / iPad.
So a film/serie taking roughly 2GB would taken over 3 minutes to transfer. That seems fare and with no relation to Plex Server.
Here’s a helpful piece of information.
First… Log into the primary User only.
Second … Transcode the movie or TV show to the size you feel comfortable with. For example. A 2 Gig movie on a small tablet can be transcoded to 50% less. When complete. Download the Transcoded move to you phone. Now you can watch it offline anytime. I like sync but it never seemed to keep ahead of the movie enough when the server is under high use. For some servers not configured right, that could mean just 2 users. Sorry guys but not all people can afford a super server and fast internet.
My Plex Cloud is up and running but due to slow Data speeds and spotty Wifi and Data Caps. Plex Cloud is not perfect for me but it does give me another option when the main server happens to burp and go offline.
Update: I tried to do a transfer from the server to my Android phone using the same settings, and the transfer speed was what I normally expected. However, the Windows 10 app is still very slow. I will do more investigation shortly (got busy AND had travel, so even tested different networks) and post back my findings.
