Why would I want to Link my Apple Account if I can't play iTunes through Plex?

I am starting my home media over. I used to run everything through my iMac until it died. I picked up a Synology DS220+ NAS Disk Station because it states it can run the Plex Server.

While starting over I noticed there is a section that states I can Link my Apple Account. Why would I do this? If I am correct, I still cannot stream my movies stored in my iTunes Folder through Plex.

Thank you in advance, new to this forum and excited to learn more.

This is to use the authentication through the Apple account. Nothing more.

Linking an Apple ID account with Plex is for 2 Factor Authentication (2FA). 2FA was a much needed feature that many users needed to make sure our Plex Accounts and servers were secure. Prior to this, we all relied on just simple password usage. With that said, linking your Apple ID does not import anything else from your Apple account. It is just away to login in securely from platforms you already use. This does not mean at all that Plex imports any Apple iCloud information and other Apple services like Apple Music or iTunes. This only a security feature. The same can be said for Google and Facebook sign on.

See this Plex Support Article for more information: Secure Your Account with Two-Factor Authentication | Plex Support

Plex now has its own implementation of 2FA, so the above is slightly out of date.

It is mainly for users who don’t want to create yet another pair of access credentials for Plex, but want to use an already established Apple, Google, or Facebook account.

Right on, thanks for the info. Do we know if we’ll ever be able to stream our iTunes library through Plex?

You can find you iTunes content, Music/Music/media

With Apple TV, you can find it in Movies/TV/ Media
