Wifi Devices on Local Lan won't play

Server Version#: 1.18.7.2434

All Local wifi devices on my home network will not play media from my plex server. If the device connects with ethernet connection, it plays without issues. I have taken a roku and tried with wifi and ethernet and wifi still doesn’t work, while ethernet works without issues. My phone won’t play media, my laptop, Amazon Fire TV, IOS phone, Android phone, I believe I’ve tried all the devices I could with wifi and they all produce the same results. If I set up a guest network on my router to force wifi devices to access the plex server via internet, it will play without any issues. The down side of this is that the guest network on my router works in a way where if it disconnects and reconnects it forces you to open a web browser and put in the password each time. So my question is this: is there a way to force devices to connect to plex with internet only?

Seems like that’s the only way I can get wifi devices to play media. Otherwise it plays and then buffers ever few seconds or doesn’t play at all. I’ve tried everything from changing the quality of the video from max to bare minimum, turning off and on direct play and direct stream in every possible combination. I don’t know what else to do.

I’m facing the same issue. If I try to play anything over local WiFi it just buffers and never plays. But on my iPhone using the Plex iOS app if I change to using a cellular network connection it plays fine. My AppleTV and any other WiFi connected devices (web browser or mobile app players) will not play. All the libraries appear to load fine, but the media won’t play.

I don’t have this issue with any other streaming services. And I changed nothing on my local network settings before this happened.

Please help!

Turns out it was an issue with my router. I replaced my router with a dd-wrt compatible router and have had no problems streaming over wifi with the built in firmware. The router I had before, I don’t recall the model but it was a Linksys router and was not compatible with dd-wrt or any other open source firmware I could find. The stock firmware was limiting in features. I’d recommend buying a different router if you’re still having this issue.
