Will an external Hard Drive attached to my XBox One be visible in Plex?

Currently I have Plex running on my PC laptop running Windows 10 with all my media on an external hard drive attached to it. The PC and my Xbox One are on a wireless network with my Xbox in my lounge room, laptop in a spare room and my router in our kitchen basically in the middle.
With this setup video files I played were buffering too much to be totally unwatchable. This may be the router speed of course but before I consider either upgrading my router or otherwise spending potentially unnecessary money, I wanted to know if it is possible to attach my HDD to the Xbox, still use the PC as the media server and use Plex to play the files from there.
Is this an option?
Will this speed up playback?

That won’t work I’m afraid. The Plex Media Server needs the media files to be accessible and they are not if they’re on an attached HD to the XBox One.

I figured as much. It was a long shot but had to know. Thanks for answering. I’ll try some other things.

@XMark1969 You might not be able to use Plex with that setup, but you could use the Xbox media app. Clearly not as nice an app as Plex, but it’ll play any “supported” video types.

Yes I think that’s what I’ll have to do for now at least. I’m pretty sure the problem lies in my WiFi setup. I may look into a wired setup eventually which should solve the problem but for now the Media Player will work. Thanks.
