Hello,
I really love Plex, but there’s one issue forcing me to use Front Row:
I’m an onlinetvrecoder (OTR) user for long time now.
Files downloaded from OTR have to be decoded to get an playable AVI file.
These AVI files can then be automatically cutten to remove advertisements and so you get an ready to watch video file.
I’m using Mac OSX and SuperOTR to do the above.
IMHO SuperOTR uses Quicktime to cut the decoded AVI file. It can generate AVI, MOV or what ever container format Quicktime is able to save.
The codec should be DIVX 5(?)
(For this example I’m choosing MOV as container to eliminate other problems.)
The resulting MOV can be played with Quicktime (Perian installed), Front Row, VLC, Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic without any problem.
But with Plex (and XBMC) audio will be async after each with cut.
I remember a comment from elan saying that something like “index audio” or “audio with key frames” my cause such problems (can’t remember where I found this).
I’ve uploaded a cutten file, hoping that one of the developers/testers will have the time to test it with Plex 9 alpha.
Get the file here (197244 KB). Just download and open it in Plex. Then jump to the middle to see (hear) the problem.
I’m crossing my fingers, that the problem will be gone with Plex 9!
Bye, Xeno
I have this problem as well but it is not limited to AVI files. It happens with many videos, though not all. If I leave the video and then resume it, the audio will be in sync fir a while and then get off again.
short answer: No. there aren’t any major video player changes in plex .9, its main focus is the new library system.
Long answer: Still no :) But the new Core Video player is coming. For a variety of technical reasons, it won't be going into the existing Plex client. However, the new player is much improved in terms of sync (particularly with those pesky MKVs), 24p support, and hardware acceleration (which I think are the top 3 complaints about the existing player).
