Will RasPlex eventually replace PHT with PMP?

Is this something that will happen being the PHT will not longer be supported? There a couple features I like with the Plex Media Player interface (which is similar if not the same as on my Sony).

Thanks, AlAiN

OK. I found some information on the subject in the “Plex Media Player Preview Releases” forums.

I’d delete my post but can’t seem to find out how :frowning:

No Rasplex Dev will continue.

Regards

Has anyone done a comparison yet between the two? It seems Plex isn’t going to be developing PHT any more. :frowning:

Correct, but keep your eyes open for an interesting announcement regarding PHT.

As regards comparison, in what way?

Having used PMP for a week, Rasplex is still, and will continue to be the best Plex client for the RPi.

Moving forward we may have to drop support for the RPi1, but this is still being looked at.

Regards

If it isn’t going to be developed officially, and an “interesting announcement” is coming out regarding PHT, we can assume it will be open-sourced.

I thought it already was open-sourced, am I wrong?

I also tried the new PMP for a few days and I must say that i am not ready to give up Rasplex for this.
So far, the combination of Rasplex and Plex Black Edition skin seems unbeatable.

For me, the main question is now to know if it will be possible for the Rasplex team to continue the work after Plex stops to develop PHT. E.g. what about the adaptations needed to fit with new versions of PMS?

If PHT becomes fully open source and that the Rasplex team decides to fork, will they receive all information and support needed to be able to adapt Rasplex to the future changes of PMS?

As a longtime and very content Rasplex user I am a bit torn. I believe in progress and therefore started using PMP. As with any new software there is going to be bumps. I appreciate all the hard work that went in to Rasplex but there is no denying that the official Plex Devs have way more resources available (there has already been 2 releases within a week). So as I see it there is no reason for the Rasplex team to build a PMP client seperatly from the official app which leaves us with a now dead ended PHT release!?
Sticking with Rasplex because “it just works” seems a bit foolish and closed minded. Like PMP is not going to evolve in solid app!
I hope the Rasplex devs can release some kind of statement explaining their road map so us end-users don’t have to guess.
Thanks.

Well, it was full of bugs and missing functionality.

There is no reason, as it would be PMP!!! And only part of PMP is Open Source.

Rasplex 2 is in the early stages of development, Rasplex 1.0.0 (probably the last version based on PHT) is about to be released.

I’m 95% happy now that I have found Rasplex and I’m looking forward to seeing what this new release is like.

Thanks Ned. Although it doesn’t seem to make sense to release another PHT based version.
More interested to know what direction Rasplex 2.0 is going!
Any insight on that, this is the first time I have heard mention of it.
Thanks.

Clears a number of bugs from 0.7.1.

How about performance?

I used xbian before and scrolling thought the library goes very smooth, while rasplex is a bit choppy.
I use the RPI 2.

Is away the new version?
