Will the new audio engine ever be fixed, will the old engine be in the new plex experience?

As these new apps roll out, I’m wondering if their release will mark the end of the old audio and video engines.

I am still unable to use the new audio engine as audio cuts out on my stereo pair of HomePod minis a minute or two into playback. The issue has existed since the new audio engine was released and has been reported on these forums. If the plan is to kill support for the old engines I won’t be able to use them. :frowning:

Alternatively, is the new engine on the Apple TV ever going to be able to work with HomePods?

Yes all of the older player stack will not being moving forward with the new app.
We are switching to a new player I have been working on this year.

The most recent work that I have done may have helped with HomePod support. If you want to test this beta I can add you and you can see if it fixes your issue.

Hi Craig,

Does this mean that Plex will be dropping support for Apple TV HD units that require the “old player” to function? Or will the existing Plex App remain once the new “experience” app is launched?

Thanks!

I’d love to give the beta a shot. Glad to see you folks are working at a solution.

However, if it’s the current build of the old app in test flight, I’m already using it and it is still having the same issue with HomePod audio in the new engine. On a side note, I’ve also had problems with playing 4K Remux (direct play video, transcoded audio) files in the official Plex app (but not Infuse). That issue remains as well.

We have the regular beta and this “Experimental Player Beta” which contains separate builds with this new player.
That version would be 8.44 (9572) if you previously filled out the form in that thread.

If so, could you send me some sample media and I can debug the issues.

No we will not be dropping support for Apple TV HD. But we may force the use of the “Old Player” and whatever required transcoding, like we’ve discussed in the other thread.

The “Old Player” is AVPlayer which we will always have since we need it for various media.

Only the extra parts that were extending AVPlayer or extending MPV will be removed.

I appear to be on 8.43. I filled out the form (DavisNL). Let me know if there’s anything else you need from me to get started.

Thanks for this.
