Server Version#: 4.34.3
Player Version#: 1.15.0.1354-d31489f0
My desktop client won’t play music or videos, generic playback error message, was playing fine before latest update.
I downloaded the latest client version and ran install outside the running client and the problem still exists.
If I log into the Plex server and use the music and video player there, everything plays fine.
Plex server is installed on a Synology DS218+ running DSM 6.2.3-25426 Update 2
The problem appears to be something in the client software, which I use daily.
I second this issue. I downgraded to the second most recent install file I had laying around “Plex-1.13.0.1275-bbd8d37b-x86_64.exe” and it worked again. The web interface works.
Before coming to the conclusion that it was the player. I applied the most recent server update as of 2020-7-22 (Version 1.19.5.3112). I rebooted my server that was running plex. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of plex for windows (Plex-1.15.0.1354-d31489f0-x86_64.exe). The issue still persisted. It appears I can still brows the content but not play it. I only tested TV Shows and did not test if music and movies failed.
In conclusion, rolling back to that installer i mentioned above, resolved the issue and content is now playing without issue.
Yeah, the desktop-app worked fine before, but I just installed the latest update and…nothing works. I tried disabling hardware-accelerated decoding, direct playback and everything and it’s still a no-go, while the browser-version via Firefox works perfectly fine.
Desktop-app is badly broken and needs an immediate fix. Downgrading the player fixes the playback, so it’s definitely not a server-side problem.
This worked for me. I also downgraded server to the previous server version, but it is worth noting that the media center style PMP app never broke. Only the browser and Plex for Windows broke for me.
