Windows 10 Desktop App Synced Content Requires Internet Connection

Server Version#: 1.18.2.2015
Player Version#: 1.3.1.916-1cb2c34d

On a recent camping trip I learned that the Windows 10 client requires a connection back to the Plex Media Server in order to launch. This means that I’m unable to watch content I’ve downloaded locally on airplanes or other situations where I don’t have an internet connection, defeating the point.

Is this expected? Or is there some bug in my particular configuration? I am a Plex Pass subscriber.

Update: relaunching the player for the 10th time today in airplane mode suddenly prompted for an update to 1.4. Installing 1.4 worked and I am able to access the app offline, but I am getting a “Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.” message when trying to view downloaded content.

Okay, I solved it - installing 1.4 via the in-app update prompts while in airplane mode apparently broke the player and didn’t install the codecs properly. Downloading 1.4 from plex.tv and reinstalling fixed the issue.
