Server Version#: 1.24.2.4973
Player Version#: Multiple, Roku, LG TV, Windows Browser, Chrome Browser
After many months of the server crashing, many different programs to auto restart the server after crashing that are now failing, I am finally going to post here.
My server keeps crashing daily, sometimes multiple times a day. I think it might have something to do with my 14tb hard drives being near full. Logs are included.
I am seeing the same issue. I have a main and off-site plex server that have been running great for several months, both installed Version 1.24.2.4973 almost a week ago and I have to restart the PMS program daily on both servers…
Any of you guys have luck with any Auto Restart App programs? I have tried a lot of them and none of them seem to work with Plex. When the Plex crashes, it’s more of a freeze and nothing actually closes or exits, so when the plex media server.exe is restarted, the other .exe’s are not, meaning that the problem gets worse, because it seems like it is one of the other programs that is crashing PMS i believe.
I am also having the same issue, it is happening overnight and I have tried disabling every scheduled task and it still happens. Always the same error:
Faulting application name: Plex Media Server.exe, version: 1.24.2.4973, time stamp: 0x6127b73e

I was having this issue intermittently for a while, so I downloaded an app called Application Monitor. I have it check every minute to see if the PMS server is running; if it’s not, it will start it up automatically. Ever since using this little app, I haven’t had to think about whether my server was down or not.
I tried using a few apps, i will try this one tycho ty. The other apps would restart the plex media server.exe but leave all the other processes running too and it would mess up the server even more. Let’s see if this one fixes my issue
I get the same thing - plex media server.exe will crash, but the app will restart it. I don’t have any issues after the restart, so you might be experiencing something else. (When my PMS crashes, the icon will disappear from my notification area, and it is not present in task manager.)
I think I’m seeing the same thing. A few days ago I updated to 1.24.2.4973. The update failed and critically corrupted my Plex installation (PMS failed to launch). I was able to uninstall using the same 1.24.2.4973 installer, but reinstallation using that same installer always produced the same corruption and PMS would never run (also always got errors during installation about being unable to write “Plex Media Server\Resources\Profiles\iOS.xml”) . I was able to get Plex reinstalled by using a 1.22.0.4163 installer I had kicking around and plex ran fine. I was then able to re-update through Plex to 1.24.2.4973 and the corruption did not happen. But, for the past 2 days since running 1.24.2.4973, PMS crashes multiple times a day (it seems after every streaming session) and without recording any noticeable errors in the log. I have to manually restart PMS. I have since rolled back my install permanently to 1.22.0.4163, which does and always has run stably for me, until a new version is released.
My issue turned out to be a corrupt database. I could see in the logs that the crashes were aligned with the scan of a certain movie. First, I tried moving the file to a non-plex directory but then it wouldn’t let me delete it in plex, so I repaired the database and the crashers stopped.
You may want to scan your logs for something similar. Best of luck.
i have plex servers and clients running on two separate windows machines in my house (why two is another story…); i ONLY use it to listen to music, nothing else. as of just today i’m getting crashes of either the server or the client on both machines. I think it’s the client because I can listen to music using my iphone app. I use plex to listen to music every day and this just started today so clearly something has changed in the last 24 hours to cause this, presumably some kind of windows update but i don’t recall seeing one come across lately. i haven’t installed any new software. i tried the “repair” option for the server on my main machine and it didn’t help. I have neither the technical expertise nor the time to dig into logs to try to figure this out. It would be great if a Plex support person could look into this and let us know what’s up. I’m pretty much ready to bail on Plex, i have minor problems with it at least once a month and major problems like this probably 2x-3x per year. If Plex’s target audience is people who have the time, expertise, and motivation to dick around with it for hours per month to keep it running I get that, but if they want it to be something average consumers can use, they are completely missing the mark.
