Server Version#: 1.19.8-2527 (on synology)
Player Version#: 1.6.3.1009
I run Plex player on a Win-10 HTPC, and got an “update to windows desktop version” notice. So I downloaded current layer for windows, installed, seems fine, but I no longer see the “full-screen” option (double slanted arrow), so always have the windows taskbar showing.
How do I get full-screen mode back?
Keep an eye on what player you’re going for…
There’s currently 2 different desktop clients for macOS / Windows:
Plex Media Player → version for home theaters (HTPC); only provides a “TV mode”
Plex for Mac / Windows → version that provides only a simple desktop layout (similar to Plex Web but with better support for media playback)
The version linked on the official download page is #2.
To download the older/original Plex desktop client (Plex Media Player), go to the respective release announcement (link is included alongside the posts):
Right now that’s Plex Media Player 2.53.0 – if someone clicks that link in the future, you might need to scroll down a little to the then latest version (future proofing this post )
Hint: you can bookmark the Plex Media Player release announcement thread in order to get a notification if there’s a new version (and not to rely on the in-player notification)
