Windows Plex Client isn't able to connect

Server Version#: 1.18.8
Player Version#: 1.6.3

Hello Community,
I’m using PLex since 2 years without any trouble.
Yesterday it started, that some libraries were empty on my client.

Using the Browser, everything woks fine.
Okay, I uninstalled the Client, got the newest version and reinstalled it.

Now I’m no longer able to connect to my Plex server. It’s found, but the app won’t connect.
“The server “PLEXSERVER” is unreachable. Make sure it’s running, double check your network, and try again.”

Via browser everything works fine.

Allow fallback to unsecure connection is set to “always”.

Server and all clinets have static IPs and are in the same network.

Server is a Windows Server 2016
Clients are both Windows 10
The TV app on my Panasonic works fine and my Fire TV stick also.

Only the Windows Apps aren’t able to connect.

What could I do?

Had the same issue a couple of times… keep trying it starts working after a while.

Not sure if that a Plex API issue or not…

I found a hint in the log what could be wrong.

[ INFO ] [Web] [Connections] Testing connection for PLEXSERVER at http://192.168.0.14:32400/media/providers
[ WARN ] [Web] [Connections] PLEXSERVER is unavailable at http://192.168.0.14:32400/media/providers (Status 0)
[ WARN ] [Web] [Connections] All connections to PLEXSERVER failed

This is the wrong IP. My server has the 192.168.0.5 and not the 14.
Where is this wrong IP coming from?

A ping to “PLEXSERVER” shows the correkt IP. So, DNS works correct.
Devices are all static, so there couldn’t be a wrong DHCP lease.

Changing the servers name is recognized by the client, but the wrong IP is still the same.

Double check the IP address in your network controller. PLEX has no place the set the IP. It uses the IP Address set on the computer where installed.

Open a CMD prompt and type ipconfig /all you will see the IPs of your computer.

have you rebooted your server lately?

I rebooted multiple times.

ipconfig shows the correct IP and the access via browser is possible.

Also a ping to the IP and the hostname works and points to the right IP.

I can’t imagine where the wrong IP is coming from. It’s the IP of my AVR. Since more than 5 years…

Your AVR might have DLNA abilities.

In the Plex Windows app under Settings>General what do you have set for Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections? I would change it to “on same network as server”. If your servers secure connections is disabled then the default of “Never” would cause it not to be able to connect to your server. since you seem to have reinstalled from scratch then it would be set to that default

It is set to always. On both. Client and Server.

But I found the solution. On the server you have to pick the NIC. It doesn’t matter if there is only one. There seems to be no default chosen. After selecting the only NIC installed and restarting the Plex Windows service, everything works now.
