Windows Plex server eventually gives me the "Plex server is currently unavailable" error

My question was, what is it? Never seen it before. I see it shows glitches in yellow. Wouldn’t this page show why and when “our” server drops out causing the problems that this post is all about?

Same. Asking around.

This looks like it is just a generic error on Atlassian/statuspage’s backend. Likely that you just hit this page at the right/wrong time. Are you still seeing this message when refreshing this page?

It opened up a separate page which still takes me to the Status Page. I would think this is a handy page to have access to so I might just keep it open.

I opened an issue my self from the fast read i did maybe its related

You’re a bit further into this than I am but it certainly does sound like the same issue.
Mine used to do it almost daily but seems a bit better now. It loses connection maybe once a week or less now for whatever reason. I haven’t really changed anything to make it work better.

Still nobody has come up with much of anything to try. I have since been watching the Atlassian Status Page for plex and even when it shows a glitch it doesn’t line up with mine.
No Idea. But getting less frequent.

@Atomatth could you maybe take a look at this because its been happening for a while now

Any Luck with this issue yet?

My Plex seemed better the last while but now it crapped out yesterday and again today as well. Yet the Atlassian Status Page showed no glitch whatsoever. Does this mean it would be due to loss of internet or a glitch in my network???

Nothing new. I’ve bumped your issue.

@Call_Me_Rev I believe your issue is something different. Your PMS is not crashing just losing connection somehow. We can continue in your thread.

Sounds good but if they turn out to be connected can someone please post back if something gets figured out.
Thanks

hey thought i’d chime in here, my server is doing the exact same thing, here’s what i’ve tried:

  • enabled port forwarding on my router following the proper steps, used the same port number you did
  • setup a static ip on my server
  • disabled all power save settings on my network adapter
  • whitelisted my router and its subnet mask ip addresses on plex
  • turned my router’s security settings as far down as it would let me
  • checked and made sure no other power save settings on windows were active
  • turned off sonic analysis for songs (i have no idea if this was causing anything)
  • checked firewall settings

yet still i’m facing the same issue, the only thing that solves it is going onto the server itself and opening up the plex media server webpage from my computers taskbar, then everything comes back and works just fine, at this point i’m considering figuring out a way to have my server periodically ping my servers pms web address and see if that keeps it active, will update if i figure out how to do this and if it works, but man i feel your pain, super frustrating

I am going to save your instructions on how to ping my PMS. Please email or post back if yours stays stable or goes awry again so I will know.
Sounds like it is worth a try for sure.
It is just strange that I don’t use my PMS for extended periods of up to 24 hrs and then only to drag movies into the folders and it still does this, often days or weeks apart.
So i"m not convinced being idle is the root cause.
I would try this now as well only I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to reverse it if it isn’t a proper fix lol
Thanks

Good ideas!

Double check your Plex Media Server settings for Support Away Mode when preventing system sleep. Also, how much free space do you have in your C:\ drive?

I’ve done all that and the checkmark is on for the away mode.

I have also, long time ago, set plex to automatically open on startup and reboot if and when it crashes… Supposedly.

Space is a non issue, my windows server is dedicated for Plex

thanks, yeah i found that and its already checked, i have about 1tb free on my c drive

if you wanna try the script simply type “ping -t 127.0.0.1” into a new notepad document and save it as a .cmd file, this will do a loopback and basiclly constantly ping the server which will hopefully keep it alive

i also went into plex settings under plex web-general and turned “allow fallback to insecure connections” to always, ill update if any of this helps

update: been a few days now and my server hasn’t gone offline once, whatever i did seems to have at least helped

Sounds promising. I always give it a good week as a test.
Chime back in after the holidays and see if plex made it through.
Enjoy the festivities, hope this works, if so , I’ll try a few on my setup.

happy new year, my server has been working without a hitch since i implemented my fixes, still not sure which one made the most difference but at this point my issue is solved
