Remote access is connected, green and fine for a random amount of time them suddenly just disconnects for no rhyme or reason that I’m aware of. I’ve been running PLEX for 7 years now and have never had any issues. The only thing that changed is the server version. (Quick solution may be to uninstall the new PMS and roll back to the last version. However, I don’t know where I can find the last version of PMS to install. I would need help with that.)
My setup… I run a VPN and have PMS bypassing it by using “VPN Bypass for Plex Media Server” scripts. I have the port forwarded. PLEX can see my real IP. To test I disable and then enable remote access, PLEX does it’s thing and finds my real IP and goes green indicating it’s connected and all should be well and fine.
Not well nor fine, seemingly at random times sometimes minutes sometimes hours PMS will just disconnect from remote access and shows my VPN IP and states it’s disconnected (note: This shouldn’t happen since PLEX runs outside of the VPN).
Now, if I go ahead and just disable remote access, then refresh the page, then re-enable the remote access option all will light up green again, I’ll see my real IP, and PMS states it’s reconnected. JOY, until it happens again in minutes or hours, whenever over and over again. I need help or this bug needs to be fixed.
Same problem here. My vpn kill switch would cause this problem but once I restarted everything it would be fine and show my real ip. Since I updated 2 days ago it hasn’t worked since! I’ve tried redoing the script and reinstalling but it just reverts to the vpn ip… Maybe something needs to be changed in the script (this is with pia) Yes I would also like to get my hands on the previous version.
Nah, just tried turning off my VPN and it worked for a few minutes, then the remote access was down again.
This has never been an issue before, just the last couple of weeks.
my server is located in the Public Internet. i got often ( more than one times per hour) a disconnect. so the playback skip to the next song and then, the server is reachable.
i download the logs a few seconds after the “disconnect” Plex Media Server Logs_2019-05-08_11-48-18.zip (5.6 MB)
Update: I have done absolutely nothing and the server version is still the same, so far I’ve had over 24 hours of connection to remote access. Seemingly, for now, all seems to be acting normal. I’ll report back if the issue of disconnect happens again.
Was it the Plex Web Firefox music playback that reported a disconnection ?
I cannot see an issue from the Plex Media Server end. Remote Access was working and connectivity tests successful.
The Firefox plex web session played One More Time (5 min 20 sec track) to completion and then started Clair Du Lune (3 min 31 sec track). This was direct playing and Plex Web completed download of the 7.3Mb file in about 8 seconds
What was the exact error ? and was it on the playback window or the tab you had console displaying bandwidth usage ?
Either way, would need to see Plex Web log to see why it reported an error. If it is easily reproducible enable verbose logging in Plex Web in firefox in advance - settings / web / show advanced / debug / enable verbose and save changed. Then start playback and when problem arises, note down the time, take a full screenshot (do not crop) and then get the Plex Web log (settings / web / show advanced / debug / view log ) and select all and copy to text file and provide together with the details (times/track name) and screenshot of the error and zip plex web log and attach with server logs
Does the problem arise when not monitoring bandwidth in same browser ? You could try using a different browser for the bandwidth usage monitoring and also try without - in case the extra load is affecting playback
I came here to post about this issue exactly. I was able to get remote access working and then overnight, it randomly stopped. There hadn’t been a problem up until the past couple of weeks.
Restart the server to get fresh logs created
When the problem arises, note down the time and get screenshot of any connection issues from plex apps.
For Plex for iOS, send the logs to your email address via settings / help & support / debugging / share debugging data / and select Mail and email to yourself
Attach both sets of zipped logs and screenshots and indication of when the issue arose
If the issue is only affecting Plex Web - enable web verbose logging, settings / web / show advanced / debug / enable verbose / save changes. Then try to reconnect by clicking on the Home icon and when it fails to get to the server, take screenshot and note down the time and save the web log through: settings / web / show advanced / debug / view log and select all and copy to text file and zip and upload with the server logs and screenshots
I will repeat what i said before. Just saying there is a problem will not help getting the problem identified. If I see loads of logs from lots of users with same underlying issue then that tells me there is a problem.
So please everyone with a problem, let me see some logs and details of setup - if manual port selected. We have had many examples of ISPs resetting the routers and losing port forwards or DHCP reservations (as an example)
I can confirm this is a new issues. I am still running server 1.13.4.5271, have been for maybe over a year now or since when it was current. Have not updated as i am still using channels.
any ways i never lost remote access in the past but have noticed it many times over the last few weeks. I am not using remote access but the server setting page tells me it is not available outside my network.
I run a VPN, PIA and they use an open VPN client with a TAP network adapter inserted in the works.
The last time i seen this issue i disconnected VPN and tried it, then exited VPN software and tried it. and after a bunch of things i think i finally restarted the Plex server and it said it was OK.
After that i started VPN and connected and it was still OK so i went Humm.
But it has become clear it is random and once it has lost it way things must be reset before it will work again.
