Windows Web app not playing AC3 whereas server player on same machine does work

An interesting observation or bug - I am playing back video on the same PC where I have Plex server installed, so theoretically I don’t need the web app, and can just use the server’s player. However, I noticed that when using the web app I don’t get surround, whereas using the server’s built-in player, I do. Since these are on the same machine in this case it does not bother me, but strange all the same. My configuration includes Windows PC connected to TV, which is connected to receiver using SPIDF, so I’m using passthrough.

I may have meant the Windows player - not sure if it’s the same as the browser option or 2 different things. It’s not the server in any case.

Web browsers usually don’t support surround sound.
Hence you need to use a Plex client which does support this, like OpenPHT or PMP.

Make sure to configure the plex client in its ‘audio’ section properly.
(‘optical’, tick the surround formats your receiver supports and untick those, it doesn’t)
