This isn’t exactly a bug report, but more of a wishlist of UI and QoL improvements that I would like Plex to implement into the playlist feature in the future. For reference, I primarily use the PMS web interface when putting together playlists, but this would apply to all platforms to the extent that I’ve used them (Android, Tizen, consoles, etc.)
I put this together recently when trying to assemble and edit a 500-item playlist mixing TV episodes and movies, but I also commonly create extensive music playlists where these would apply as well:
-
More items per screen: At 100% zoom, I count 12 items per screen. Even when I zoom in to 75%, this only expands to 18 items. Would love to see better use of screen real estate where each item is contained to a single line.
-
Multiple item select & re-order: While we can select multiple items, we should be able to drag those items as a consecutive batch.
-
Item embedding: If I add an entire album, TV series, season, etc. I would like the option to have those items collapsible into a single entry. As it is, if I add an entire 22-episode season to a playlist, I then have to drag each one of those episodes to the correct placement. It also makes my combined episode-and-movie playlist look insane (ie. if I want a playlist with Captain America, the Agent Carter TV show, and Captain Marvel, I would like to be able to treat Agent Carter as a single item on the playlist. I can then expand the “Agent Carter” entry and rearrange or remove individual episodes where needed.)
-
More sensible item dragging: I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been working with a huge playlist, tried dragging an item up a dozen pages to where I want it, accidentally moved my mouse a few pixels to far, and had it drop the item back at its starting place. I would love to see the boundaries of the invisible drag box, know how far to go to drag it at maximum speed, etc.
-
Shareable playlists: I know that this has been requested forever, but let me send a playlist to my friend who is also a Plex user so he can stream it off of my server. Sort that into a new section in his Playlists section (ie. Playlists From Other Users). Even better, let us both collaborate on a single playlist with items from both our servers.
