Workarounds for app not starting/loading past splash screen (Version 1.3.1) - Fixed in 1.5.1

Thanks @“Dom C” for the info. Let us know how the process goes. hope it passes!

As of right now, a hard reset ( pulling the power plug from wall outlet ) works for me … so far in all accounts ( xbox accounts and plex accounts ).
( just rebooting or shutting down and starting hadn’t helped before ).
I had previously removed then XBox One from the devices list on the server.

I’ve said this before also. I’ve helped about a half dozen people with the spinning icon and so far this has worked 6 for 6.

I have attempted all the above fixes with no success. Hopefully the new update will fix this issue with the app.

That being said I’ve figured out a work around to still launch plex from the Xbox one using the edge browser.
Just open up Edge, navigate to your server using the ip address/port of your server with “/web/index.html” and you can actually still watch in Edge.

Example, (your ip addressed/ports will be different depending on your setup)
http://192.168.1.6:3300/web/index.html

I did suffer from this problem yesterday after my son pulled the power cable out of the brick forcing a hard reset during active playback. As soon as I fired up the Xbox One back up I could no longer get passed the spinning wheel. All I did to fix it was:
1)Log Out of all accounts
2)Force quit the app (Hamburger button from dashboard and quit)
3)Restart the Plex App (To get the ‘You must have an Xbox Live account to use this app’ message)
4)Sign back into my account. (I didn’t even close the app just signed in and the app deteted my sign in and continued to the home screen)

It may not work for everyone, but it did for me.

This is now beyond ridiculous!!! How have you not rolled back to previous working version?

I am not renewing my membership as a result of this crap nor are 7 others I know. Terrible QA.

If you would go back one page. You will see that they have submitted a fix. It has to get through MS certification. They are doing what they can at this point. If the only benefit from plex pass you are using is alpha/beta access to Xbox one you are selling yourself short. Plus. Remember that very small amount of money you pay helps the company build more than just the Xbox one app. As a software dev I think they deserve a helluva lot more than I pay.

Made sure Plex was Quit
Signed Out
Opened Plex
Used the Plex prompt to sign in
Spammed the menu (Burger) button
Plex actually opened properly before I even got the setting changed
Still changed the setting to Always.

Good news: 1.5 (the version with this bit of the code rolled back) passed the certification testing with MS.

It now needs to go the the next stage of the publishing process, but hopefully should be released next Tuesday.

Again, sorry if this has bitten you and I hope this release goes out soon and fixes the issue for everyone.

Thanks!

Thanks Dom. It’s a shame we have to go through another weekend of the wife not being happy but at least we can see light.

Thanks again @“Dom C” , looking forward to next Tuesday

Somewhat good news but in times like this the Tuesday release really should be waived

Next Tuesday? You must be kidding…

Since that’s when Microsoft publishes its really not up to Plex.

I tried the bit about hardbooting the Xbox, left it unplugged for a few minutes after signing out and uninstalling plex. Removed Xbox from devices list via web UI and then restarted PMS. Turned on Xbox, installed Plex without signing in. Upon opening Plex it told me I needed a Microsoft account to continue so I signed in. Now I’m back at the spash screen with the spinning loading indicator. So still no luck here.

After following all of the other steps listed (specifically cold booting and removing the Xbox from the device list in the sever) try this step;
-Remove the Xbox from the device list on the server (web UI)
-Turn your sever completely off (mine was my PC so easy enough)
-Cold boot to dashboard
-Open freshly installed Plex app
-This should then prompt you for the PIN or sign in page, sign in and Plex shouldn’t be able to find a server
-Turn your sever on and then Plex should automatically find it

This worked for me after none of the previous steps worked, it makes sense too because the app wouldn’t proceed past a certain point because of a breakdown between the server and the app - if we remove that communication until afterwards then in theory it should work. You may still need to select the option for an insecure connection but it’s better than nothing if it works between now and Tuesday when 1.5 gets rolled out.

Hopefully this works for at least some of you and keeps your friends, family, wives/husbands happy over the weekend!

The break down is actually with the app loading settings from the Xbox One storage so when the bug hits the app fails to finish loading and gets stuck at the loading screen. If you’re able to force it to load into any screen (You need an xbox live account, error connecting to server, pin activation) you’ve already gotten past the bug.

I finally got it to work by going into the server and removing the xbox one from the devices. Then the xbox one would connect

So Tuesday is the ETA?

What needs to be done too apply the update?

PS: The scanning feature when fast-forwarding on the Samsung App is great to track forward. Prefer it over the Xbox version which pauses and tracks forward then updates the screen. Any chance of seeing this on the Xbox?

As soon as it is released when you open the app it will tell you that the app needs to update and hit okay and everything will update and be done.

Mine has been acting up for a couple weeks. I managed to sorta get it going after a full factory reset. Now I just launch Plex without signing in, Plex says you need a Microsoft account to launch. That’s when I sign in with my Live account and everything works fine. Stupid workaround though.
