Would it be possible to program the nvidia shield TV to go straight into plex? I realize it can play games and a ton of other things but 99% of the time I just use it for plex.

I can’t imagine nVidia thinking that was a profitable thing to allow.
I don’t use my shields exclusively for Plex, but, try this.
If you are in the Plex app and not watching anything, just hit the power button and turn it off. Then try turning it back on after a few min to see if it comes back up in Plex.
I use one of my Shields as a WMC7 replacement and am usually watching TV from my HDHR tuners with it. While it is still playing a channel I press the power button and it sweep the amp & TV off. When I press the power button again it sweeps the amp and TV on and starts playing the last channel I had tuned in. Maybe it will come up in Plex too.
