My guide on setting up Nvidia Shield TV, Plex and Chromecast to work properly…
Some issues I ran into
Nvidia Shield TV Sleeping
Chromecast Not Working
Plex Server Not Found
No Live TV DVR
So after spending a god-awful amount of time. Here’s what I came up with to get everything working. It may not be an ideal solution for everyone. But having everything work is most important to me.
First thing you want to do is the factory reset. Then disable automatic updates for Nvidia shield and go to Google play and disable automatic updates.
Next thing to do is go into developer mode. By going to about an scroll down to build click a couple times and it should say developer mode is active.
Next thing to do is disable a few things to prevent Nvidia shield from sleeping thus affecting Plex.
They are the following: (I don’t know if all these need to be disabled, but that’s what I’m doing for my system)
Go to developer options. Enable the following
Stay awake
Keep shield remote 2017 awake during the video playback
We can exit developer mode (don’t turn off)
Now Display & Sound, then Power Control. You should see HDMI-CEC
I have disabled the following under Power Control
Turn on TV
Set TV Input to Shield
Turn off TV
Wake Shield
Sleep Shield
Sleep Shield (there is 2 of them)
You can now exit Display & Sound
Go to screensaver and disable. So it says screensaver is turned off.
When to start. I put after 2 hours of inactivity
Put device to sleep and never
Next¶ you want to go to Network & Internet (if you have it set to ethernet, Chromecast won’t work at least that has been my experience)
Should just have Wi-Fi listed
Disable Ethernet
Disable IPV6
Next you will want to go to the Google play store and update Plex media server. Then you can transfer files over your local network to your Plex. (It won’t work without the Plex media server update, it will just say loading)
Now you will want to set up Plex. So go to the Plex icon and start it it will ask if you want to set up the Plex media server and say yes. Walk through the steps until you’re done.
Next use your laptop/desktop/mobile to add Live TV & DVR. It will start to add your channels and download the guide.
I leave the auto updates disabled in the Google play store. So a fair amount of work but it’s worth it in the end. Any feedback would be great!
