Write Access denied

Hello, so going along with this and this is what it outputs, some kind of permission issue it seems:

[alex@BigNasX share]$ $(getcfg -f /etc/config/qpkg.conf PlexMediaServer Install_path)/plex.sh restart
Plex Media Server hasn't been enabled or started...
/share/CACHEDEV2_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/plex.sh: line 25: /share/CACHEDEV2_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/etc/ld-musl-x86_64.path: No such file or directory
/share/CACHEDEV2_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/plex.sh: line 165: [: -gt: unary operator expected
Starting Plex Media Server...
[alex@BigNasX share]$ PMS: failure detected. Read/write access is required for path: /share/CACHEDEV2_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server

Note: Sorry, but your issue is not only different, but you also continued in a thread that was already answered, so moved to new Thread

I need info from you…

  • QNAP Version and QTS version?
  • PMS Version?
  • Did this happen with a resent upgrade, or?
  • Did you disable the admin user?

I mean you created that thread for my question and someone else hijacked it, so not really my question being answered yet but okay here’s my info.
QNAP model TS-231K
QTS version 5.0.0.1891
PMS version 1.25.3.5409 - I also tried to uninstall, and manual-reinstall with two older versions, 1.25.2.5319 and 1.25.1.5286, to see if that would fix it, and they all had the same issue of it not starting up the server, I assume for the same permission issue.
I disabled the admin user months ago due to many failed attempts from the internet of trying to access my server, so it didn’t start when I disabled admin user. Should I enabled the admin and try to install it instead while logged in from admin?

Heh…Rolling over here and laying down flat, sorry, and correct, it was the other way around.
So sorry

Yes for a short test, since clearly a permission issue, so somethings up with the user you are running under now

And if that works, try and disable again after words, to check if a restart of PMS then works

Okay, so uninstalled PMS, and reinstalled it from the admin account. Same thing happening. I also tried to just stop and start PMS, and same results of it not working right still. A side note, I ought to mention is after I uninstall it, it will not properly install from the App Center list, I only can install it manually via the qkpg since this started, which from the sound of it is all to do with the permissions the whole time.

Indeed, and something is really strange with your QNAP here.

Try this:

Uninstall it
Then reboot your QNAP
Then look in the file named /etc/config/qpkg.conf

If you have a section in there named [PlexMediaServer] then delete that and reboot again, followed by a new install
if not, let me know

Okay, I’m trying to access that folder and make it to the “/etc”, however I’m not super knowledgeable with ssh commands to access the config. I see with ls command that there’s a folder called “config@” but i can’t access it via “cd /config” nor “cd /config@” I even tried “cd /config\@” but it just keeps saying “-sh: cd: /config: No such file or directory”. I’m not sure if there’s some special command to access that folder?

Should be named just config?

And if not, then I sadly only can suggest you open an incident with QNAP, since something very strange is going on with your access rights here

Okay, thanks for your attempted help still. I might just back up my QNAP data to other hard drives and reset the device to factory, because I use plex daily before this happened and it’s a PIA not having it working.

I strongly suggest not disabling admin user, but instead make a strong pwd for him, use intruder detection, and 2FA

I thought I’d respond that doing a factory reset, without deleting the data itself, did fix the issue and I’m now able to use plex media server again properly. It’s barely a fix so much as a last resort, but it worked without having to restore my data from the backups I made.
