After 4 days of scanning, I recognize that a huge amount of albums (I guess mostly VA compilations?) have wrong album artist shown while browsing with the plex.app on mac or plex for web.
No need to mention, that the files are well tagged and work correctly in other players (foobar2000+mp3tag/madsonic/AudioStation/etc.) and even in the “old” library of Plex.
So, what is this all about an HOW can I fix it (automatic). I don’t want to change every wrong album by hand, of course.
I have read in the forum and there are some how-tos (from Plex team), or might it just the best to delete/remove the current music libraray (or database?) by hand and start from scratch?
The database files are 2.4GB in size
In the end, time matters and it’ll surely take some time to repair (and come across other problems…)
Currently I’m running:
PMP Mac Version 1.4.1.940-574c2fa7 or PMP on Samsung TV
PMS Version 1.18.3.2129 on Synology
Now, on the 4th day of scanning, the problem comes back, so
UNFORTUNATELY nothing has changed.
Same wrong Album Artists, which were all shown correct, when using the LastFM scanner on an older version of PMS (before MB was introduced).
It seems the new MB scanner has some serious problems, which I’m unable to solve w/o the Plex Crew…
I surely can provide some samples of the musicfiles that you can see their tags and some other parts of my configuration/log files, if there is any interest.
Something seems to be really weird. The database file size is extremely large. I’m not sure this can work at all.
How are your music files structured in storage (in terms of folders and sub-folders)?
Are you adhering strictly to the hierarchy of
Music > Album Artist > Album Title > Tracks
Or do you throw large numbers of tracks into one or several few folders?
The configured library folder is
\\server\folder\music\
I too have some folders with are not well tagged and maybe in a desolate state (propper musictagging is a long process, you know it) but I only mention/complain the well tagged folders here, which “should” (imho) be ok when fetched and processed, not the ones on my todo list.
Please let me repeat: It all worked well with the last.fm scanner on previous versions of PMS (before I uses the MB feature)
btw:
now, the database less in size, but Plex has not scanned the half of the content.
I created a new library with same settings and now, after about 2-3 weeks of scanning and 2 new versions of PMS, unfortunately, nothing has changed, which means, PMS is showing wrong artists for Various Artists.
I had 2 Various Artitsts artists, one with about 47 albums and the second with somewhat about 3000 albums.
Also I had an artist “ABC” with about 4000 albums, which where Various Artists albums only.
I tried to “merge” all the 3 different artists to get a single “Various Artists” artist, but unfortunately, I now have an artists named “X-Ray Dog”, which has all the Various Album artists albums (about 13k).
I’m sure, I can rename it to “Various Artists”, but that will not help to manage the mess, PMS created and maybe will continue to mix up when updating the library.
So, obviously, creating a new library will not help.
What else can I do to help you finding the cause of defect?
It’s surely not my folder-structure, because the same structure worked well with the last.fm scanner (which I don’t want to use anymore, because it takes ages aka months to complete scanning my library files and not only weeks like the new MB scanner)
