Wrong episode number and using TVDB database for all info

Server Version#: Version 1.18.1.1973

I am frustrated and tried everything from removing show removing episode and then doing the dance to re add the show but it claims for the show Evil that episode 2 is actually episode 77 and the title of the episode is 177 Minutes. Verified it from the tvdb.com website. File structure is F:/TV/Evil (2019)/2 - 177 Minutes also had it listed as F:/TV/Evil/2 - 177 Minutes and same result and it’s frustrating me.

well, your file organization is only part right.

and your tv db link is wrong. https://www.thetvdb.com/series/evil/seasons/1

https://support.plex.tv/articles/?s=naming&search=support_articles

try

F:/TV/Evil (2019)/Season 01/Evil (2019) - s01e02 - 177 Minutes

all your shows should be in the above format, if you want plex to pull the right metadata.

None of my other shows require the s01e02 - and they show correctly this is only show that is causing an issue

well, I hate to tell you, they are still wrong.

Please see the link above directly from plex itself.

So this file format that works for every show but 1 on one episode means I would have to change all my 568 shows and the multiple seasons to look like this F:/TV/Evil (2019)/Season 1/s01e02 - 177 Minutes to get that one episode to show correctly but all the other episodes in that season of the show, show correctly as F:/TV/Season 1/1 - Pilot …and so on…? I find it ridiculous that it’s only affecting that one episode when all other of the 568 shows show title and episode number correctly without the s01e02 format.

welcome to plex.

Failure to comply with the instructions laid down for your behavior in the file naming department may work, may work for a while - right up until the time it no longer works.

You have two options:

  1. comply

  2. fight Plex tooth and nail

Pick one.

FileBot can fix your entire library in about 5 minutes (or over a long weekend at worst):

That’s a bit of an exaggeration. While yes, proper naming of TV Show episodes would preface with SxxExx, if your only issue is with that one episode in that one show, then just rename the episodes in that season to SxxExx. It’s not that many episodes (7 so far?)

While I have not used FileBot, I agree with @JuiceWSA that it could be a quick fix to renaming all of your TV shows.
Though like I said, just rename the files in that one season and see if it fixes your immediate issue.

The day I started using FileBot was the day Stargate SG-1 started misbehaving badly - not surprising as I had the biggest non-compliant naming horror show known to man:

FileBot fixed that mess (all 235 episodes) in UNDER 1 (one) second. Now NOTHING is added without first going through FileBot.

You will still experience the odd mis-match (Plex normally fumbles about 10%), but it won’t be because your naming is wrong.

Yes it seems to be working with that particular episode but with having to match each show and the episodes Filebot has been only coming up with non matches on bunches of my shows and the titles are matched to TVDB as the source of data by manually looking it up on their website. Now running into an issue where single digit episodes like 1-9 aren’t being matched to be able to do whole seasons smoothly. I also know this is a Filebot issues but I don’t understand some of the things I read in the help forums for it so I guess it’s manually editing or dealing with it when there is an issue.

You can’t just rename things and expect a miracle to happen.

You may have to Plex Dance (entire) Shows or Movies after renaming/restructuring in order to clear a bogus bundle written with a bad file name. Basically, if ‘Refresh Metadata’ doesn’t do anything to fix the problem, The Plex Dance probably will - at least we hope so.

ALL steps, in the exact order described - or it just won’t work.

About 10% of Plex Matches with TVDB/TMDB are going to come up lame - so if that happens, Fix Match is your only option at that point, but the first step is correct file names and structures.

Note: Yes, Refresh Metadata should, as the name implies, Refresh the Metadata, but unfortunately The Plex Dance was invented all those years ago when Refresh Metadata doesn’t do anything in the Metadata Refreshing area.

The Plex Dance will absolutely Refresh The Metadata - 'cause it’s a ‘Complete Do-Over’. A Start From Scratch with a brand new bundle. Hopefully with a good file name and structure this time, but ONLY if all the Plex Dance Steps are performed in their entirety.
