Wrong owner listed - even after "resetting" via the Lockout directions?

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2701
Player Version#: 4.22.3

Hello, all! New-ish user here.

When I first setup my Plex server, I invited a friend to join so I could test remote connectivity from outside my home.

Somehow, that friend now shows the “Owner” crown icon on his profile - and I’m at a loss for how to remove it.

I followed the directions listed here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/?_ga=2.52582445.46579723.1587990436-1097337879.1587990436.

When cleaning out the registry entries - I note they’re all correct (showing my e-mail address as the owner in the PlexOnlineMail key, as well as my username in the PlexOnlineUsername fields) - but shut down the server, deleted the reg keys, and restarted then reclaimed the server while logged in as myself…

… and still my friend’s account shows as the “Owner” account. As he was only intended to be a test user and hasn’t logged into my server since, I’d like to purge his account from my system, but… can’t until I resolve this.

Is there a portion of the process I may be overlooking? Or have I stumbled onto some weird ownership “bug”?

Do I perhaps have a stumper of an issue here?

Is there any additional information I can provide that might help with troubleshooting?

Your friend and you both made a mistake:

  • He invited you not only as a ‘shared user’, but as a ‘Plex Home member’.
  • You accepted this invitation. Did you read the confirmation email/onscreen dialog in full?

You joined his Plex Home, which makes him your ‘master’.

If you want to be your own admin again, you need to leave his Plex Home:
Go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/users-sharing
Hold the mouse over the line with your user name.
There is a red X at the right end, which reads ‘Leave Home’.

Not gonna lie. I was SURE there was no way that was true.

He never setup a Plex server, but I did.

… but damn if that didn’t work.

Thanks, Otto.

On the upside - I’ve since added my girlfriend as a user without confusing all the things, so I’m definitely learning.

Then I wonder why he invited you in the first place, if there is nothing to share.

I love my friends dearly, but while most of us work in Information Technology - this particular friend also complicates the simplest things in ways that have baffled me more than once.

If I were to guess, I likely sent him an invite, he created an account, started clickly around for “sharing” invited me, and past-me just accepted his invite to see if it would help expedite our connection (like friends on any video game service).

But, again, I really appreciate that you were able to discern what was going on in the background and help me get it resolved (in a single click, no less!).

This is not my friend…I do not know him

Sorry? What are you referring to?

I mean that the guy who sent me the invite…is not someone I know…total stranger…I made an assumption that he was a friend…and accepted by mistake.

It doesn’t matter if you know him. Just find your user name in here https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/users-sharing
Hold the mouse over the line with your user name.
