When cleaning out the registry entries - I note they’re all correct (showing my e-mail address as the owner in the PlexOnlineMail key, as well as my username in the PlexOnlineUsername fields) - but shut down the server, deleted the reg keys, and restarted then reclaimed the server while logged in as myself…
… and still my friend’s account shows as the “Owner” account. As he was only intended to be a test user and hasn’t logged into my server since, I’d like to purge his account from my system, but… can’t until I resolve this.
Is there a portion of the process I may be overlooking? Or have I stumbled onto some weird ownership “bug”?
He invited you not only as a ‘shared user’, but as a ‘Plex Home member’.
You accepted this invitation. Did you read the confirmation email/onscreen dialog in full?
You joined his Plex Home, which makes him your ‘master’.
If you want to be your own admin again, you need to leave his Plex Home:
Go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/users-sharing
Hold the mouse over the line with your user name.
There is a red X at the right end, which reads ‘Leave Home’.
I love my friends dearly, but while most of us work in Information Technology - this particular friend also complicates the simplest things in ways that have baffled me more than once.
If I were to guess, I likely sent him an invite, he created an account, started clickly around for “sharing” invited me, and past-me just accepted his invite to see if it would help expedite our connection (like friends on any video game service).
But, again, I really appreciate that you were able to discern what was going on in the background and help me get it resolved (in a single click, no less!).
It doesn’t matter if you know him. Just find your user name in here https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/users-sharing
