I’ve started using Plex for photos recently. So first step was to add some photos just for testing and I noticed this problem. After some googling I found out a closed discussion that had as solution delete all library, empty the trash, and then add all folders again. Not a problem since I had only two folders with less than 1000 photos, and I hadn’t spent my time creating albums or tagging.
I did all that and it solved for me, at that time.
So I went on adding 14 years of photos and also created some albums/play lists.
Just to find out today (about two/three weeks later) that the problem is back.
And here I see its a very common bug of Plex ![]()
Same problem here, it’s incredible…
There has been update after update, but nothing has done to the problem with the timeline in the photo.
The problem seems to occur when optimizing the database, then the problem occurs after a few days. I can not understand that you are ignoring our problem.
Give us at least some kind of comment!
Dozens of topic about this problem, here’s a few :
Is it possible to even know if the problem will be fix one day or if we have to find another solution to host our photos library ?
Thx.
Thanks for the ping. I’m sorry I don’t have an ETA. I see there was activity on the bug report last month but have not figured anything out yet. Looks like there needs to be some major changes to fix.
Thx for the reply ! Is there any public view for the bug report ? Like a JIRA or something ?
I’m sorry we do not have public bug reports.
Ok.
Do you know if they can reproduce the bug ? I’ll be happy to help in anyway since I only wait the fix to buy my Plex Pass ![]()
Yes. one of our QA folks and one of the devs reproduced it as far as I can tell.
Great.
I guess the only thing to do now is to wait… Thx for the clarification !
Can you give us the ID of the bug so we can monitor any fix in releases note in further versions ?

Hi,
However after I posted to another thread about this problem, I re-created a photo library then timeline date got correct, but I noticed recentlly that the problem was occurred again.
I share information about photo data to help fix the problem.
8th item’s date from top is incorrect, and incorrectness getting worse as more older photos.
(Please see this google doc link. I’ll delete the shared link in a month. Copy as you need it.)
Your app “plex” has some bugs, but It helps my life better and I love it.
Thanks.
Plex Media Server 1.28.2.6106 is now available to Plex Pass users in the Beta update channel.
FIXES:
- (Photos) Timelines could get reprocessed unnecessarily leading to incorrect placement of photos in the timeline (#13730)
However I update to Plex Server 1.28.2.6151 on Debian/Linux machine, timeline still places photos incorrectlly.
Not solved.
Ditto here - same version (2.6151) but timeline is still broken. I even re-added into a new library to see if it fixed the problem (spoiler: it didn’t).
Same problem here. Running the last version under Raspberry Pi.
I’ve done some testing on this. Two different platforms. After you have created your photo library, the timeline will get messed up after you restart the server.
I have created a photo library on the Plex server on my NAS and left it running for months (adding photos during this time) with no issues with the timeline. When I restart the server the timeline goes all f’ed up.
Will someone at Plex not look into this? It’s something happening upon server startup with scanning the photo library.
Hi to everyone! I write from Italy and I have the same problem of all of you, my timeline is all messed-up with photos put in mixed order… this is a pity because the photos section in Plex is very good and far better than Kodi o Emby ones!
Is it possible to have a solution from Plex? It is very strange that Plex officially ignore this very common issue…
I hope this will be solved very very soon
Hi all, Plex Media Server 1.31.1.6716 is now available to Plex Pass users in the Beta update channel. It has a fix for this issue, all you need to do it is just update the server.
If you don’t have a Plex Pass, the version will be available to everyone in a couple of weeks.
