Wrong season info

Might be an issue with plex pulling accuate data from TVDB for some shows.

Please understand i absolutely have named my files correctly that is NOT the issue i use software to name the files and have triple checked everything i know what i am doing it is not a naming issue!

the tv series WWE Smackdown some seasons such as season 9 which was 2007 are showing info from 2006 episodes and some from 2006 are showing 2005 episodes etc now what is really strange is the info appears correct on TVDB and my data source on plex is set to TVDB but still shows up wrong.

Further it’s showing up in the right seasons on plex but the details for the episodes are for the wrong seasons which is further proof it is not a naming issue. for example S09E06 on plex is showing the detailed information and photo from S08E06 on TVDB so i guess my question is how is this fixable? Is this something that plex can correct or is there some sort of issue on the back end of TVDB even if it appears correct on there end?

Thanks for report. Something definitely wonky going on with TVDB aired ordering.

I’m not sure how long it might take to get fixed but you can maybe just use TheMovieDB aired for this particular show as it seems correct (i don’t watch it so not sure if that wrong too in some other way)

Much appreciated!

At the very least i’m just glad i’m not going crazy!

i posted in a facebook group and even though i showed proof everyone just says i must have named the files wrong lol

Cheers

This appears to be an external ID issue on TMDB.

S09E06 on TMDB points to TVDB ID 384808

S09E06 TVDB ID is 323670

I’m not sure how you’re seeing S08E06 info since S08E06 TVDB ID is 323987

To fix this, someone will need to go through and verify/correct all the TMDB external IDs

I have attached a picture of my plex showing S09E06 and a picture of S08E06 on TVDB for comparison. I’m not sure but that’s what shows up lol

Oh, I believe you. I have setup a 9 season Smackdown folder in my Testing library and I’m seeing the same thing. I’ve poking through TMDB some more and there are also missing external IDs for a number of episodes. Its a mess.

Ok, I have updated the external IDs on TMDB S01-S09. Wait a few days and refresh metadata. We’ll see if I made it better or worse, lol

Much appreciated!

Yeah most of the external IDs were missing and the ones that were there were wrong. I suspect this show is another victim of TVDB doing a bunch of renumbering.

I am not planning on doing S10-28. My eyes are wiped out now.

I just refreshed metadata for this show and it looks like the changes have been picked up.

I specifically checked S09E06 since that was one example you pointed out that was wrong. It is showing the correct show summary and poster for that episode from TVDB

Hey, yea i saw last night that one was fixed and some others but there’s still some wrong in seasons 8&9, Was just hoping maybe it’s taking a bit to update them all.

If not i might take a crack at fixing them when i get a minute. I have never done it before but i’m sure i could figure it out haha

Yes, it’s possible that it hasn’t been fully pulled in.
I was expecting a little bit of a problem with S8. TVDB has a special but TMDB didn’t have it. I think got myself a little confused at that point.

It’s not hard but can just become really tedious, especially with these long seasons. You just need an account at TMDB so that you can do edits. Go to the season you want, click on the episode you want, select edit, click on “external ids” and then fill in the TVDB ID. Hit Save.
TMDB will throw up a red flag is that ID is already in use.
Since you like this show, you will be more invested in making sure the info is correct. I would imagine newer seasons are more likely to be correct.

Ok cool! i imagine you can edit the episode titles also? Because some are a different format than others like S09E01 is “Friday Night SmackDown 385” then S09E02 is “SmackDown - Jan. 12, 2007” So some go buy the total episodes the show has had and some by the date it aired might so i might put in some time making it all the same if possible.

I think you can but I’m not totally sure. Since the titles rarely matched, I was mostly going by air date to make sure I was matching the episodes correctly. That is probably where some of those non-matchers are coming from. There were some air dates that didn’t seem to match, so I had to kind of guess.

Yea makes sense, I know some ID’s are still showing the wrong info / photo for now but ill give it a few more days for those.

Question though if it pulls data from TVDB why do you have to edit it on TMDB that part has me a bit confused because when i googled it the results said they aren’t the same company or anything. does TVDB pull from TMDB and then plex pull from TVDB? lol

Plex primarily pulls from TMDB and uses the external IDs to do the TVDB (aired) ordering, DVD ordering etc. I think at some point it pulls data from TVDB and other sources and massages it all together into a metadata meatloaf. Plex uses the IDs to make sure it keeps each episode matched up.
As you can see, when the IDs are missing or incorrect, Plex just makes a best guess and not always a good one.

Looking at it, I believe Plex is getting those episode titles from TVDB and you won’t be able to fix that on TMDB.

Dang.. Well i appreciate the help!
